  1. Wasn't Boxy the Jesse Winker guy too? Or was that Dinger?
  2. I knew they were FA's, but I was questioning why that is because it doesn't need to be that way. Their rights can be drafted, as I posted, to make it a more fair system. As you probably know, players eligible for the NHL entry draft are amateur, collegiate, and professional players in the European Leagues. In effect, every player that comes into the NHL is subject to the fairness of the draft for distributing talent.
  3. I am aware the current system is in the CBA, that doesn't mean its permanent.
  4. Not that, the proposed change, you dummy. The current system is ridiculous.
  5. Tell me what is wrong with what I posted.
  6. Nothing about my thinking is faulty. To make the process fair, any players in KBO/Japan that have expressed interest in playing in MLB should become draft eligible. The team that drafts one of these players can either attempt to sign and pay the commensurate compensation to the KBO/Japan team, or trade the rights to another team willing to pay the price. This way, all 30 MLB teams potentially benefit from the top KBO/Japan players and not just one of the richest teams.
  7. Why are they free agents? Did they accrue 6 years of MLB service time?
  8. Might be better off signing Bellinger than overpaying for Yelich. None of us know how the negotiations are going.
  9. Gift him to the Yankees then?
  10. Ya I am sure there are those that would be unhappy, those that wouldn't care, and those that would welcome him back. That's just the nature of the matter.
  11. Guaranteed?
  12. No it's not panicking. And its not a notion, a competitive window (or win curve) is a real thing in all sports. You say you don't see the Jays as anywhere near the need for a rebuild, yet a few posts back you mention trading Vlad and Bo.
  13. No one is panicking, there are just different opinions on the path forward.
  14. Highest upside play of the remaining FA hitters
  15. It is very difficult to field a winning team without several cost controlled contributors. If the Jays had a strong farm system with several highly ranked prospects, I would have no problem filling holes with guys only good for 1 year deals. Because the Jays would have the makings of a sustainable contender. With the current state of the franchise and the relatively bare farm system, they really have two options (1) go for a win in the short term, or (2) sell assets and start the rebuild. (2) probably doesn't happen without Atkins being let go though.
  16. Say hello to 20 years of mediocrity with this approach.
  17. Sure the Jays could get lucky with guys that are only good for a 1 year deal. Mediocrity is more likely. With a fairly short window and crappy farm, Jays need to aim higher IMO. And it seems they are taking this approach, being in on Ohtani and Yama.
  18. Now this here post is another great reason to go sign Bellinger
  19. This is an excellent post
  20. I might have used the wrong phrasing. How about "not as good" in 3 years. Point being, there is a short window here where the Jays are a 90 win team.
  21. Well that's the million dollar question that I can't answer. I am not sufficiently in tune with the player market. Shatkins has been pretty good in making FA decisions, if they end up taking the risk and signing Belly for 8/$190 or even 8/$200, none of us should have heartburn.
  22. Yes, plus Gausman made some changes in 2021 that worked. He has further refined those changes and here we are. Bellinger made some changes in 2023 that worked. He might very well lock down and refine those changes further.
  23. I would like to point out that the Jays signed Gausman to what has turned out to be a fantastic contract. They got him for that price because other than the prior 2021 season, he had generally been a frustrating, inconsistent pitcher. Bellinger right now is kind of in the same situation as Gausman was after 2021.
