He could be an Ortiz but the bat speed decline and injury history, he's a guy that was dangerous because he could easily catch up to fastballs, forcing pitchers to throw junk off the plate (walktista) or miss it in the zone. The 'ol eye test says he was quite often late on fastballs last year and getting challenged more (and the pitcher winning). Doesn't look good for him IMO
Or worth 3 WAR over the 3 years, negative in the last.
Its a tough call but the pick really hurts him.... maybe he will get $15M AAV but I can't see more.
It would seem to be but looks like the market for an aging, injury prone, liability in the field, declining power numbers, SOB, with pick attached is quite limited.
I believe its the case. The attempt to sign EE was solid, but Fowler and Bautista, seems to be lukewarm at best. Will not be good among the casuals if Bautista signs somewhere else for 3/$36.
The window that existed when a prime EE and JB were delivering $25M seasons for half the price has pretty much closed.
Said it before, this FO wants the picks more than the players. There's a reason the FO has invested in an organization geared to player development. A rebuild through the draft and the farm system is underway.
EE played some LF in 2015. Didn't look out of place. Its possible he's a better OF than JB, crazy as it seems. EE had a great but inaccurate arm as a 3B.
That's not true, Rogers did pony up and increase payroll.
Building a contender through FA signings worked years ago, but rarely works today. Shatkins knows the Jays need to get younger / more cost controlled talent to be WS contenders.
20/80 in favour of Vancouver, no reason to be aggressive with a 17 yr old and start his clock way before his peak. Don't we want him debutting MLB no earlier than 21, so his peak is within his years of control?
Indeed and I fear that will be the next few years. Shatkins will build up the farm however they can while fielding a .500 team to keep attendance at a reasonable level. As opposed to a proper rebuild.
Assessment is probably the Toronto baseball market is such that attendance will plummet to crazy levels if a Cubs style rebuild was pursued.
If the Jays strike out on the better free agents out there, have to seriously look at moving JD for youth.
WC in 2016, hard to see that happening in 2017 without suitable replacements for EE and JB. And Jays have been very lucky with SP health the last few seasons, unlikely to continue.
Like Cito, a guy who had success due to a stacked team that stayed relatively injury free. In other words, pretty much any other f***ing manager would have had the same results or better.
Same. There needs to be a good quality chain of Indian restaurants with reliable quality. Havent been able to find a good Indian restaurant in Niagara Falls. Was an excellent one in North Bay, previous home.
good chance Jose is worse in 2017 than 2016's 1.4 WAR.... at the age where a significant drop off can occur.... he is not swinging the bat with the same power/authority (permanent shoulder damage?) and is a major liability in the field
said it earlier, at this stage of his career, Jose is not hard to replace
the pick has more value
