Who do you target?
Say what? Vlad is 21, through a season and a half has a 108 wRC. He's only getting better, right? So 2021, reasonable to project at least a 115 wRC? The projections are all over 120 and as high as 140.
Padres, Chisox, Dodgers, Yankees, Mets would be the top lineup competition.
I would have only the Yankees and Dodgers ahead of the Jays, but if Vlad takes it up a notch and Jansen gets a normal BABIP, Jays are right there at the top with them.
It's a tightrope, first need to sign Brantley to a reasonable deal, term and moneywise, and at the same time get value in trade for one of the incumbent OFs. Or at the end of the day, dump Grichuk for peanuts.
No need to be attacking one another. And discussing the value of a FA signing or who got the edge in a trade shortly after it happens is a BJMB tradition. There is nothing that says we have to be rah rah for a few days first.
It would have to be Grichuk, a top prospect like a Manoah, and a lower level prospect to get a mid rotation starter.
But damn, it leaves a lineup like this:
Bichette
Biggio
Springer
Vlad
Teoscar
Gurriel
Brantley
Tellez
Jansen/Kirk
Common theme among the Jays signings to date, they are buy lows.
Maybe the plan is to buy one buy high (Springer) and spread the rest of the money among a bunch of rebound candidates.
And the Padres after the trades with 7. Wow.
Wander #1 2nd straight year, joining Andruw Jones, Joe Mauer, and Bryce Harper as the only ones to do this.
