    I know. I simply sorted the FG leaderboard by defensive contribution to WAR, and Duvall, Hays and O'Neill are top 3, Lourdes #8. Not a real egregious nomination, just odd for a guy regularly replaced for defensive reasons to be a GG finalist.

    No one mentioned the Cubs as a failure. The Cubs were simply brought up as an example of how a competitive window can be shortened by bad moves. In the Jays context, trading top controlled assets for 2 years of Ramirez, for example.

    Jays have expressed that Moreno will get INF reps in AFL. AFL ends Nov 20. Let's see if he rolls off several 3B starts in a row, in which case time to get excited. He might get some DWL reps too.

    Eduardo Escobar is projected for $12-13M and is a league average bat / defense. Switchhitter. Could trade for JD. Trade catching surplus for pitching. Move a couple of lower ranked guys like Lopez for pitching. May not be room for those types, given the Jays are pretty set at each position for a few years yet. There are a lot of ways this could go.

    Nah, this is the kind of deal you make for a short window of contention approach. Prefer the longer term window of excitement.

    I would prefer the team move on from Dumtoyo, but one thing we do not know about is the importance of clubhouse management. Few of us or any of us know how often clubhouse issues torpedo a team. The Padres may very well have been sunk by a poisoned clubhouse atmosphere.

    AA was fine as Blue Jays GM. He made good moves and bad moves, overall good. Wanted to make that clear because this particular debate started with the question "Do you miss AA?", and not "Is AA a good GM?" I don't miss AA because Shatkins is just as competent, if not more. Having combined the build of a young exciting contending team for years to come with a very strong farm system. The current state of the franchise reminds me of the long contending window of the 80's and 90's, and not the short '15-'16 one.

    If any of us thought that with Rogers as a corporate Owner, there would be no meddling in Blue Jays decisions by non-baseball minds, that's pretty much debunked.

    Agreed 100%. Don't miss him though, Shatkins is at least as good, Dumtoyo notwithstanding.

    The negotiations will extend to at least March, no question. They have to be staring into the abyss before a deal gets done. FA deals can still get done up to Dec 2 or whenever the work stoppage begins, with some stoppage language added.
