Keep in mind though, the bullpen is usually the last part of a contender that gets attention. The dumpster diving for bullpen pieces the last few years was a consequence of the focus on the offense and SP side of things.
At this point the Jays should, and I expect will, allocate more resources to the bullpen.
Espinal can capably play all over the field. His value is max'ed in that role as opposed to a regular at 3B or wherever. Will still get his 400-500 PA.
Jays likely to be even better next year. We might have to stomach Charlie for a while.
It may well be the FO places a lot of value on clubhouse harmony, and is willing to accept some in game stupidity as trade off. None of us know how often a toxic clubhouse atmosphere happens in baseball and its impact. Shatkins does.
Having said that, surely we can find a manager that can do both.
Berrios still has room to improve.
Berrios - #1
Manoah - #2
Stroman - #3
Ryu - #4
Matz - #5
That's a bonafide playoff calibre rotation. Add some depth SP and its fine.
Get better BP pieces though.
Stroman, Matz, a couple of good bullpen pieces, Moreno to 3B, and Vlad, Bo, and Teo extended long term and the Jays are ready to rock.
Parts of the Toronto skyline tattoo are still visible, the bridge is not completely burned down.
C/3B/1B, similar to other catchers in MLB.
Positional flexibility is valuable. Jays may have switched him to C based on projections at the time, but given his breakout as a hitter, their original projections are probably way off. And there is a glaring need at 3B.
And generally speaking, having Moreno as solely a catcher isn't a good idea, given the wear and tear effects on the bat.
There are 6 owners in the league, would like to find 2 more. Lineup setting and claims/drops.
Draft is tonight at 8:30, with 1 minute pick windows. Will take an hr or so.
HMU if interested.
