  1. Remember, Tiedemann has pitched 11 innings above A ball.
  2. I would disagree, based on the Nov 23 reports And now with the arbitrator finding merit for a lengthy suspension (and the arbitrator would look at past suspensions, including the Chapman matter), this again it does not bode well for Bauer in the civil case
  3. My comment solely relates to the risk a team takes. Of course the chance of that happening is remote. Bauer is going to lash out when he loses the court case and has to pay the woman $$$. More bad press for any team that signs him.
  4. Maybe, but that's not something any contender should be relying on going into the season. If Zulu and Tiedemann are not ready for MLB hitters (quite likely in fact), as things stand now we have Kikuchi and White getting approximately 50 starts. I don't know about you, but I'm not comfortable with that at all. They need to add one more experienced SP. Adding a 3rd SP increases the probability one of the 3 performs like 2022 Stripling. If 2 of them do, Jays get a bye. Pitching depth is a good thing.
  5. That wouldn't result in a 194 game suspension.
  6. Not enough evidence to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt (the criminal threshold) But enough evidence to prove guilt on a balance of probabilities (the civil liability threshold)
  7. Read the reports, bro. The allegations are in the public sphere. And the evidence sufficient to warrant a 194 game suspension in the eyes of a neutral, and trained, 3rd party.
  8. I'm not overestimating anything. Neither of us have an understanding of the team marketing calculus that is at play. None of us can assert anything in this matter I'm just pointing out the risks that a team has from a marketing standpoint Hell, with the s*** Bauer is engaged in, he might end up killing someone at some point
  9. Maybe but the PR hit a team takes by acquiring Bauer, and then he (probably?) goes and does stupid s*** again, is a significant risk And have to balance that risk of another shitstorm against the contributions a guy that hasn't thrown a MLB pitch in quite some time might provide It might be tough for that risk balance to tilt in Bauer's favour
  10. you mean business considerations
  11. 194 seems about right for that s*** Bauer pulled
  12. Appeal? It wasn't binding arbitration?
  13. He doesn't get paid for the first 50 games next year, basically the arbitrator ruling includes a 2023 salary reduction. The 2023 salary is actually 32 x 112/162, whatever that works out to.
  14. Dodgers have 14 days to decide whether to reinstate him. They likely reinstate him, and work the phones for a trade, with Dodgers retaining some salary.
  15. Kikuchi is #5. History will tell you the #6 starter starts roughly 20 games in a season, and 4 other depth pitchers start another 10-15. White's numbers and projections reflect usage out of the bullpen. Numbers as a reliever tend to > numbers as a starter. We saw how Mitch White did as a starter last season. Maybe he will do a mini-breakout as an SP, but a contending team shouldn't bank on it. He basically has two pitches, that can work as a reliever, generally does not as a starter. White's Steamer projection is based on 8 starts, and 34 appearances out of the bullpen. 8 starts is what a #7 SP typically gets in a season.
  16. Explain. You realize that the pitching staff as currently constructed, Mitch White starts about 20 games?
  17. I went through 6 of the top AL teams. They all have a pitcher better than White to step in if one of the starting 5 goes down. Jays need to add a Kluber, Wacha, or other similar type, so that White doesn't get 20-22 starts, but more like 6-7.
  18. Its just for the sake of comparing. And yes, there will be more moves to come. Point is, the pitching is comparatively weaker at this point. Before last season started folks here thought the bullpen was strong, and "starting 3 are solid AF, #4 could easily return to his #2-3 form and #5 is a wildcard" If one of the top 4 SP is lost for a length of time, now we have Kikuchi as #4 and White as #5, instead of Kikuchi #4 and Stripling #5.
  19. No, Bassitt replaces Ryu. We don't have anyone in the bullpen comparable to Stripling, not even remotely. White has nothing close to Stripling's track record. One might assess the pitching staff to be comparable to the staff at the start of last season, I say it's weaker.
  20. Reynolds would be nice but given the choice I'd just sign Profar and his projected 105 wRC+ and keep Tiedemann
  21. With the exception he's likely the 4th starter and possibly the 3rd starter for a good chunk of the season. Remember last season started with Ryu as the 4th starter and Stripling in the bullpen.
  22. It’s all planned out
  23. I'd move him for J-Rod
  24. Some funny stories around this. I lol'ed at the one below... Lou Piniella, meanwhile, once challenged the rule during spring training in Fort Lauderdale, citing that Jesus had long hair. Steinbrenner responded to this critique by pointing at a nearby swimming pool and saying, "If you can walk on water, you can wear your hair any way you want."
  25. Well if he's that inconsistent, all the more reason to add SP depth.
