  1. Mottola seemed like a more laid-back type of guy where as Seitzer seems more assertive or aggressive. I remember reading last year how Mottola convinced Rasmus to stop overworking himself in the batting cage after a bad game. At the end of the day, Rasmus might still be struggling if Mottola hadn't been fired by Gibbons so who really knows.
  2. Smoral's final line: 4.1-IP, 1-H, 0-ER, 3-BB, 6-K, 6-GO, 1-FO.
  3. Tellez with his 3rd jack. Smoral: 2.2-IP, 0-H, 0-ER, 0-BB, 3-K...still pitching.
  4. Shouldda kept Mottola.
  5. You could be right, but I don't expect him to be a top 3 starter. If he can become a 4 or 5 at league minimum, that would be awesome for a 6th rounder. Same applies to Pillar as a 4th OF. On the other hand, here are his minor league K numbers: 2010: 21.1-IP, 10-BB, 26-K. This was between the GCL and NYP. 2011: 108.1-IP, 31-BB, 113-K. At Lansing. 2012: 101.1-IP, 27-BB, 108-K. Between Dunedin and New Hampshire. 2013: 110.1-IP, 35-BB, 116-K. Between NH (92.2-IP, 103-K), and Buffalo (17.2-IP, 13-K). K's have gone down at Buffalo, no doubt, but he's been over a strikeout per inning throughout. We'll see what happens.
  6. Speaking of guys who could be moving to 2B, where has Dwight Smith Jr. gone, injured?
  7. Funny how certain posters don't bash the O's any more...maybe they're just ignoring their success because it reminds them of how f***ing wrong they were about them.
  8. Great start for Norris. Burns played 2b today, don't know if he's played there much this year, but hopefully he can stick there. Dejong with a nice outing today: 5IP, 3H, 0ER, 0BB, 5K.
  9. It would be great if these guys actually meant it since it would mean they'd stop following the team till next season, but we know it's just whining. I'll take a 6-4 road trip and move forward. The team obviously needs its starting players back, but they've actually done well without 3 of their top 6 hitters.
  10. I'd be shocked if AA's fired at the end of the season, especially if the team stays in the playoff race till the end. Only way I see him getting fired would be if the team collapsed. And yes, there are some emerging youngsters and the long-term outlook doesn't seem as dire as it may have looked at the end of the 2013 season. Another guy who's turned his season around is Andy Burns. He could be a decent role player for this team. I've wondered why they wouldn't try him at 2B, but maybe they already have.
  11. Jays must have terrible pitch-framers at Buffalo as Sergio Santos walked 3 batters in his inning of work tonight.
  12. Ryan Borucki in his Vancouver debut: 5IP, 2H, 0ER, 1BB, 7K.
  13. Maybe Pompey can earn a promotion to Buffalo before the end of the season and start there 2015.
  14. Pompey: 0-1, BB, SB, RS. Burns: 1-2, HR. Average up over .260, promote this man to AAA already. Cole not having a good AA debut: 4IP, 7H, 5ER, 4BB, 4K. Graveman's AAA debut is going a bit better: 3IP, 4H, 0ER, 0BB, 3K.
  15. I brought up Hanigan because the TB Rays, who are believed to value pitch-framing highly, wanted Hanigan so bad, that they were willing to lose $$ on Heath Bell just to get him because Hanigan is supposed to be a great framer. The point being that it would've been cheaper for the Rays, just as an example, to offer up their own version of Brad Lincoln to the Phillies to get Kratz plus a LH reliever who could possibly become a decent loogy. Never did I compare Hanigan to Navarro. I even think Navarro is being rated about average on defense this year so....
  16. Red Sox are a top 10 team this year and with all those young players and pitchers, they'll be a top 5 team for the next decade. Imagine if they add 1 or 2 Lester type starters....scary!
  17. So, basically, you're saying it is the umpire...
  18. Kratz is so great, even the T-Rays would rather take on Heath Bell's contract along with Ryan Hanigan than offer up a reliever to the Phillies to get him plus a possible loogy under control for several years. For the record, I liked Kratz and think he's undervalued by MOST of MLB, but the Navarro hate is out of control. JPA is supposed to be a better "framer" than Navarro.....
  19. So are you saying it's the ump and not Cervelli?
  20. Basically, for some posters, when a pitcher struggles, it's Navarro's fault, what's worse is that now, when a pitcher has a good game, like Happ yesterday, it's also his fault...go figure.
  21. And Napoli walked in the 3rd on at least 2 balls that could've been called strikes...wonder why the ump wasn't fooled on those...
  22. It seems not many other teams care about pitch framing since many teams could've given the Phillies their own version of Brad Lincoln to get him plus a possible future loogy. Unless I'm mistaken, JPA showed improved framing numbers yet everyone here hated him, with a couple of exceptions. Some people were giving credit to Kratz for Happ's good starts, yet have been silent since Kratz was demoted and Happ has continued to pitch decently. It seems to me some posters overrate Kratz and have ripped the organization for trading yet ignore the clear fact that basically the rest of the league has not thought much of him for years since he's been mostly at AAA and is 35 years old. Anyway...
