  1. Anyway, too much attention being paid to another rumour. Although I understand it's like a guy who hasn't gotten laid in a year, anything will do at that point.
  2. Depending on how much they have to pay for them. Drew would be the key for me as I want the team to be better on the field and at the plate so Jimenez would have to come at a nice price.
  3. How about Capuano + Jimenez + Drew? I'd like Burnett on a 1 "yearer" but I don't think the Jays can lure him. If they signed Capuano + Drew + Baker, I wouldn't be too upset.
  4. Any chance he did it on purpose to screw JPR since he was with the A's? Just reaching here. If Sabean was serious about that trade, I don't see why he would leak it. Who knows.
  5. AA nearly got Darvish, Beltran, Peavy, Sanchez, Kinsler, Anderson and who knows who else...he'll end up wondering "what could've been" once he's fired.
  6. 'Cause gay marriage is legal...look at Escobar, he got out before getting married.
  7. What would we do without rumors, especially in an off season like this year's? Rumors bring hope where there was little left...till they turn out untrue and leave you feeling depressed.
  8. Did the Red Sox hit their high end? I ask because I remember many here (old MLB board) talking about them like thebluejay is talking about the Jays...lol. I remember posters talking about how Napoli's hip would never hold up and s*** like that. Just pisses me off even more rehashing last season and how it went, or didn't go, better shut up and go sleep.
  9. It would be nice, but until something is final, it's just a tease.
  10. It wouldn't be much fun if all prospect lists were the same, would it?
  11. If they had missed the playoffs by just a few games, we wouldn't be as down on the team and they would likely have more money to spend. It would mean that they stayed relatively healthy and performed up to their projections or close to it and it would be easier for a bottom 10 FO to see where the improvements need to be made. Given that they had so many injuries, it makes it harder for this FO to see where the holes are and makes it easier to just blame it on injuries. At the end of the day, I actually think this franchise would be thrilled with a WC run as that would keep attendance and ratings into September and ultimately, I think that's their main goal.
  12. All that's changed from last year is that they're a year older, assuming they sign a comparable replacement for JJ. Morrow was as much a wild card as he is this year. I seem to remember several happy with the fact that Romero and Happ could be the 5th and 6th starters. The offense is basically intact. I seem to remember that several thought that the key to the offense was Rasmus and Lind having good years. As it turned out, they both had good years, but Reyes, Lawrie, Bautista, Cabrera and EE missed significant time. Don't get me wrong, I wanted an upgrade at 2B, but I think the big difference going into last year was that they looked good on paper and now that we saw them s*** the bed, we're very pessimistic. No matter what, they'll need good health. Kawasaki did a decent job replacing Reyes and he could end up platooning with Izturis and at least he gets on base against righties. Hey, gotta have some hope.
  13. It's interesting that many of us picked the team to win between 86-92 games even though they planned on platooning Bonifacio and Izturis at 2B. So now, it'll be Goins and Izturis, is this that much worse? I think if the rest of the team stays healthy, and I know that's unlikely, then I think they can live with Goins/Kawasaki/Izturis. For the record, I wanted them to sign Infante or Ellis, but that's gone out the window. At this point, they're probably thinking of replacing JJ and hoping for healthy seasons from Morrow, Lawrie, Reyes, Bautista, EE, Rasmus and the improved SP depth to provide a boost.
  14. Yeah for sure. I actually meant McGuire and Bonds and how usually players don't perform like that in their 30's. You could add Clemens and others to that list of course. I really don't think they were as good as their numbers in their 30's suggests they were. Anyway....
  15. The thing about these guys is how they performed in their 30's.
  16. People have been predicting baseball's demise for a loooong time. They've claimed for a long time that it was too slow for younger generations and other such things. Now baseball can even organize a decent international tournament, who knows, maybe they should keep proclaiming its demise, it seems to be having the opposite effect.
  17. I have no problem blaming AA for negotiating the trades he did, I said at the MLB board that I wouldn't have even traded D'Arnaud straight up for Dickey, but anyway. Interestingly, the farm isn't in as bad a shape as you'd think it would be given last off season's trades and it could be back in the top 10 with continued good performances by some of the low minors guys and of course with 2 draft picks in June. I'm one of the few who thinks he's best suited as an assistant GM and not a GM.
  18. I could certainly be wrong on this, but that's just the sense I get from the posts. On the other hand, it's certainly true that GM's will take the brunt of criticism so it is what it is. I guess we'll have to wait and see, but I don't think Beeston would get fired along with AA. I think Beeston would have to retire, it just seems like he has so much power.
  19. I agree as well. I think some here seem to think that all that stands between their favorite team being run like the Cards/Rays is AA being fired. The same people also salivate over Mozeliak/Friedman, but overlook DeWitt/Sternberg. I agree with them in wanting the Jays to be run like those teams, but I'll start with a DeWitt/Sternberg as I believe you build from the top.
  20. Don't be offended, but I don't think it's rational to think that Tanaka would've chosen the Jays over the teams involved, even if they paid $10M more than the Yankees ended up paying. It's also not clear to me that it's fair to criticize the Jays for not getting Darvish when the Rangers ended up outbidding the 2nd bidder by $20M. Some keep pointing to Anibal Sanchez and how the Jays didn't sign him because he wanted 7 years, well, he signed for 5, so try again. I do think it's fair to criticize them for the sudden and ill-timed change of direction. I don't think many would be up in arms if they had stuck to the plan they were executing reasonably well.
  21. Well put. I think some also ignore the performances these guys put up at an age when most players decline. Aren't there discussions about players peaking sometime in their 20's? Anyway, we all view things our way so it's a moot point.
  22. My view is that I don't think the numbers these guys put up would've been put up without steroids so they lose a lot of credibility in my eyes. Do I think they belong in the HOF? Absolutely, but there's no doubt in my mind most of these guys would've seen declines by the age of 33 or so. Anyway...to each his own.
  23. This guy hasn't signed yet? F*** this, I won't wait any longer, I'm going out of the apt.
  24. I thought it was pretty obvious from the beginning that the guy that the Peter Acevedo that passed away was not the same person as the other, basically one had a flag from the Philippines and the other one was somewhere in Latin America. Anyway, glad this got cleared up.
