  1. Janssen and Goins for Phillips?
  2. I don't believe the Jays traded D'Arnaud and Syndergaard because they thought either of them would bust, they just got bent over. AA just accepted that he had to pay that price for a CY award winner. The fact that RA came at a decent price was a big factor as AA had blown the budget in the Marlins trade. The Jays decided they didn't want to wait for the farm to bear fruits and went into that off season with the mindset that they wouldn't strike out on improving the team, even if they had to overpay and well, that's what they did, overpay for days.
  3. Goins may or may not stick, but his thread certainly has!
  4. I saw dis earlier and had to laugh, that's the best way to react to it.
  5. You'd better believe it bro! I remember last year when Lackey left that game against the Blue Jays at the RC with an apparent elbow injury, I think pretty much everyone here thought he was gone for a long time, especially since he was coming off TJS the previous year. Well, we know what happened, but you can bet if he was a Blue Jay, his arm would've been amputated or something...lol.
  6. Dombrowski said the young LHP was the key as he was part of a group of young pitchers they were focusing on getting back. Anyway, as I said, it's the Tigers' problem, I just found Farrell's comments somewhat interesting in that he's saying they knew he had leg issues. Freakin' Red Sox, everything goes their way.
  7. They may have known, but if they did know, I would think they would've gotten some help during the off season, maybe even in the Fister trade. Who knows really.
  8. Not to defend the guy, but he said catchers who caught him in the past, like John Buck, used to set up in the middle of the plate, even JPA to a lesser extent. I also don't think he's said he "deserves" to pitch in the majors.
  9. So the Red Sox were aware Iglesias had shin issues: Red Sox manager John Farrell told reporters, including Sean McAdam of CSNNE.com, he feels for Iglesias, who played for him last year, but was "aware (the shins were an issue) to the extent we had to monitor. We had to get him off his feet because he felt some pain and soreness there." Shouldn't the Tigers have known this? If Iglesias was a pitcher, I think some people would be asking questions. Anyway, their problem I guess.
  10. Pillar, from what I've seen, has trouble with fastballs. Plus he's a free swinger, if he doesn't improve on that he'll be a AAAA player.
  11. Tons of ground balls induced by Sanchez. Good outing. It might be time to send him down to minor league camp to get into his starting routine, but hopefully, being in MLB ST will have done him some good.
  12. Oh yeah, that's true, maybe Cabrera or Lawrie will hit 2nd.. I'd also expect Lind to sit against Price.
  13. Stroman is not coming north with the team, that's just not happening. I don't mind that he's still in camp as he's getting some work in against some ML talent although maybe it would be better if he was sent down and started every 5th day like he will in the regular season. I expect Happ to be #5 or one of Rogers/Redmond/McGowan if he starts the season on the DL.
  14. I think Happ is out of options, but at his salary, I doubt many teams would consider picking him up. I also think he can refuse to be sent down and become a FA. I think we need to remember that Morrow made like 10 starts last year and hasn't pitched since. I'm fine with him getting extra work in ST before the season starts and having him start the HO should give him a bit more work. They probably also want him to start the HO instead of Happ or whoever is the #5.
  15. Well, backwards and the Jays don't exactly dislike each other. The report is coming from Blair, so this could all be made up to begin with. It could very well be that they want Morrow to get a bit of extra work in ST given that he missed most of last season. I do think having him pitch the HO over the 5th starter is actually a thing they'd do. Who knows, maybe they even want Dickey to pitch between their 2 hardest throwers. I do think PR plays a big role on their decision-making, but who knows.
  16. I wouldn't put it past the Jays to bring him north, but it would be the wrong thing to do. The right thing to do is to let him show the apparent improvement over a longer period of time in AAA in competitive games. They'd also have to risk losing one or 2 of Jeffress, Rogers, Redmond, McGowan, depending on whether they go with a 7 or 8-man BP, I don't see that.
  17. I'd like to think we're all hoping RR somehow gets it back and can pitch like a #4. However, he certainly needs to pitch well for a lot longer than 2 ST outings. If he could pitch well for a month or more in Buffalo, then I think he'd be making a case to be called up. I can assure you the Jays won't remove anyone from their roster to add RR based on ST performance and that performance hasn't even been all that good anyway.
  18. As far as Morrow being the 5th starter is concerned, this is just a PR move as they'd prefer Morrow to start the home opener instead of one of Happ/Rogers/Redmond. This makes them look silly either way, but they'd rather look silly to the hard-core fans for seemingly overreacting to ST performance than look silly to the casual fans for having Happ/Rogers/Redmond start the home opener. This is how this organization rolls, a lot of their decisions are influenced by PR and it won't change until the owner chooses a president who will set out the correct vision for the franchise. The thing is, this move could backfire as Morrow is working out the rust since he missed most of last season and it may take him a while to get it all back, if he's ever gonna get it back.
  19. So Jeff Blair writes in a column that the Blue Jays matched the Phillies' offer for Burnett and most posters say they don't believe him. Then the same Jeff Blair claims he hears that Morrow's spot in the rotation is not secure and some posters assume it's true and go nuts over it. Anyway, it's been a tough winter.
  20. It is what it is, the team had Happ as its 4th SP going into ST so there was going to be competition for the final spot, now it looks like Hutchison is running away with 1 spot and Happ's spot could be up for grabs. I was hoping guys like Redmond and Rogers would pitch well and hopefully trade one of them to a team looking for SP depth. Ideally, yes, every spot should be set, but there are other teams who have decisions to make as well during ST.
  21. McGowan was apparently sick for a week so that set him back on being stretched out, but he threw 2 innings in a recent game (yesterday?) so they're still going ahead with that from what I can see. Redmond and Rogers just haven't pitched very well to this point, but all 3 should still be in the mix although it's Happ's job to lose at this point since Hutchison is just running away with one of the spots. All these guys need is a new release point and they'll lock it up.
  22. He basically took shots at everyone on the Jays organization, from FO to players. Oh AA, trading away D'Arnaud was a huge mistake, not only because it was an overpay, even straight up for Dickey IMO, but also because you were basically saying that you believed in JPA. Anyway, too late now.
  23. The way I read this whole Santana affair is that his agent did a number on the Jays and O's. He used them to stir up interest in his client and even got a 3-year offer from the Twins in the process. I think they used the media, including Rosenthal, to spark interest by spreading the rumour that he was now not only willing to sign a 1-year deal, but also sign quickly. After seeing the immediate reaction and offers by the Blue Jays, Orioles, Twins and Rockies, they figured, "now that we have offers on our hands, why not wait a few days and see what happens? These teams won't be withdrawing their offers any time soon". It is what it is, this is an "in-between" franchise. They made last year's moves, IMO, to avoid going into 2013 with a team expected to lose 90 to 100 games. AA certainly went full retard with the Dickey trade though, that's a trade that's gonna haunt him and this franchise in particular, for a loooong time. Hate to rehash it, but it is what it is.
  24. This is what I remember too. They reportedly dined Sanchez and his wife in TO and so forth. Everyone is pretty cynical and will believe what they want to. At the end of the day, Rogers owns the franchise and as of today, they're happy with AA's work, if they weren't he'd be working in a Greek restaurant.
