  1. So tomorrow will be 2 weeks since Lawrie's been out. Hopefully, only 2 more to go.
  2. Obviously, it's a SSS, but his BB% in his limited time has stood out to me given how little he's played. Again, very limited sample size, but it does go with what you say here.
  3. Well said, and nice avatar. I've said several times, owners like Sternberg and Dewitt Jr set the vision for their franchises and let their GM's do the job, but it starts at the very top.
  4. Well, for sure. It would help a lot if Reyes got going, he's been looking bad for a while. Rasmus could do better as well. No doubt they need to address 2b/3b, but we've only been saying this since last year so I won't hold my breath.
  5. I also said this road trip leading to the AS break could see them ending up at .500 by then. If they can somehow go .500 on this trip, it would be an accomplishment.
  6. I said it 2 weeks ago and will say it again, this team is looking like 2013 post 11-game winning streak. I know some think this is a chicken little attitude, but it's not, I'm just describing what I'm seeing. It's not the end of the world, but they're 9-17 since they got to 38-24, that's a slide in my book. I also said after the rough stretch in Apr/early May when they blew those leads, that if they stuck with it, they'd be alright since I thought they were playing good ball, but the BP was just going through a horrible stretch. Right now, the more concerning thing is the way they are or aren't playing. Of course, the holes are being exposed more because some of the regulars are banged up or on the DL which we knew was a concern coming into the season. Anyway, we'll see what happens.
  7. I'm not certain, but given how he's hit in the minors vs LHP, I'd rather give him a shot than certainly a guy like Glenn. I really haven't looked at what this new guy has done vs LHP in career, so I could be wrong, but I'd rather give Pillar a chance.
  8. He may not be "the" answer, but he's better than Glenn and maybe Mastroianni, certainly better than this guy they just picked up.
  9. One of the RHB off the bench should be Pillar, but he's probably black listed now for being mad at being ph for. He'll probably be traded away for a bag of balls now.
  10. So now Bowden is a legitimate source? LOL, anything to bash AA I guess. We'll see what happens.
  11. Ideally, it would be a guy that can play 2B against both L/RHP, but I don't expect anything to happen. Fact is that this team has the same holes it had in 2013 so I don't expect AA to find solutions in the next 25 or so days. If AA does make a trade, it'll probably be an overpay.
  12. Also part of the return for the Cubs is that dealing Shark and Hammel on July 7th as opposed to 3 weeks from now may help them get a higher pick in next year's draft.
  13. No doubt, I just think Shi is out to lunch to say Stroman + Hutchison would've only been a starting point. Anyway, no biggie.
  14. That wasn't what he said bro? He's saying that Stroman + Hutchison would only have been a starting point in terms of the price to pay. That's different than saying it wouldn't have made sense when you take into account Stromann and Hutchison's, quality, youth and the years of control that come with that.
  15. I don't agree that he's all that critical of the F/O, but that's not really the issue. The issue is saying that a package of Stroman plus Hutchison was ONLY the starting point. It was reported early in the season that the Cubs asked for Stroman/Sanchez plus Hutchison in the off season for Shark, but Stroman and Hutchison's value has only gone up since they're in the process of establishing themselves as mid-rotation starters. I really don't see how that would be "only a starting point". We all love Russell, but Mckinney is in A-ball and the A's obviously didn't think that highly of Straily since one could argue that he was traded for Hammel. Don't get me wrong, the Cubs got a nice package, but again, 2 23 year old starting pitchers already pitching well at the MLB level is a hell of a package, especially as a starting point.
  16. I think it would be interesting to figure out what the A's gave up for Shark and what they gave up to get Hammel as well as it could give us an idea as to what the going rate would be for David Price and for guys like McCarthy, Kennedy and other rentals. As far as RR goes, who knows really, but I don't think he can be traded while injured so maybe as a PTNL.
  17. Here's Davidi's piece on this trade: http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/samardzija-deal-wouldnt-have-made-sense-for-jays/ This caught my attention: Sounds like he's making up excuses on this point. Not that I'm criticizing the Jays for not making the deal, I just think saying Stroman plus Hutchison was the starting point sounds like he's a shill trying to cover the Jays' behind.
  18. That could work, but as you said, price has to be low since Prado has like 20+M left on his deal. Would McCarthy be a throw in and maybe send a prospect if they'd take RR? Probably wishful thinking on them taking RR, but one can dream.
  19. Also, what do you guys figure was the price for Shark and what was the price for Hammel? I ask because it would be interesting to use what was paid for Shark to gauge what the price for Price could look like. Similarly, what was paid for Hammel could help gauge the price of rentals like McCarthy et al.
  20. It wouldn't surprise me either way. I'm thinking they could use him to plug another hole, but we'll see.
  21. Adios amigo! Enjoy rooting for a well-run organization.
  22. I also think Hammel could be dealt in the next 25 or so days.
  23. The A's improved their chances of locking up their division and winning in the playoffs. Plus, they'll have starters coming back from injury for 2015 and could still deal Shark or another starter in the off season to recoup some of the prospects traded. I think that if the Jays had the record the A's have and made this type of trade, we'd be pretty fine with it.
  24. Because he's been better than you think and I'm hoping he won't cost much. I'd actually prefer it if AA addressed the IF and found a RH bat to platoon with Lind, but I won't hold my breath. We'll see what happens.
  25. So 2 rumoured SP options are gone in one fell swoop. Hopefully AA can get McCarthy for very cheap.
