So, I know it's only the ASG and therefore nobody really gives a s***, but apparently Brad Marchand didn't make the team. Holy f***, how does that happen? He's 4 points behind the scoring leader.

If the league votes to keep compensation, perhaps a follow-up poll would be in order that asks the question of whether or not compensation should be awarded on a case-by-case basis. Losing someone like a Tyler Skaggs or Yordano Ventura in a 20-team league is pretty easily overcome. A Jose Fernandez, though, is almost certainly your best pitcher and should probably garner sudden loss compensation, imo. I realize this opens up a can of worms if a borderline star dies, but it might be best to police on a per-case basis if we vote to keep sudden loss compensation.

Those are still really good numbers. If anything, they just prove that he's legit af. That 3.10 FIP put him 6th in the majors among all qualified starting pitchers, while the 3.32 xFIP was good enough for 8th. The fastball, despite the lack of velocity and spin, was the 26th most valuable fastball among all major league starting pitchers in 2019. He tunnels his pitches with the best of them and so the fastball plays very well off of his changeup, which was the third most valuable changeup among all major league starting pitchers in 2019.

I'm pretty sure this signing increases the projected win total to ~81. Plus whatever Yamaguchi brings to the table. Sign Cesar Hernandez, Dellin Betances, and one of Collin McHugh/Alex Wood/Taijuan Walker/Jimmer Nelson and basically stick a fork in the offseason.

The Blue Jays made a big push to land Tanner Roark, as the right-hander told reporters (including Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic) that Toronto was the first team to get in contact with his representatives as free agency opened. “They knew what they wanted, and they wanted me and it’s exciting to have someone want you like that,” Roark said. Pitching coach Pete Walker also told McGrath that he and Roark “just seemed to hit it off” during a 25-minute phone call. Atkins said earlier in the offseason that Teoscar was working out at 1B. If the idea truly is to move him there, that might be why the team hasn't exactly jumped on any of the current FA options. And if Teoscar can play the position even passably, I think I'd prefer him over any of the other internal options.
