That seems like kind of a silly argument, but I haven't read their defense of it. Why is the homerun the threshhold at which the metric is descriptive and not predictive? Why can't groundballs be that threshhold?

fangraphs needs to replace FIP with xFIP for pitcher WAR and incorporate framing into C WAR. Two easy changes would really improve it.

Depends on payroll. A re-tool year next year after trading Edwin/Bautista rather than extending them into their late 30s would probably be the best course. Let the Donaldson era begin with new management.

Because of 5 bad starts? Maybe he's finished, but up until 5 starts ago he was a lock for 200 innings and a 3.8-4.2 ERA.

That doesn't really mean anything though, at least regarding Hamels. What matters is flexibility in 2016 and 2017. If they're capped at 120M, Hamels doesn't make sense. If they can go to 150+, Hamels becomes hugely attractive.

It's hard to even comment on this because we have no idea how much payroll space is available, but Cueto and Zimmermann will cost close to 200M on long-term deals in the offseason. Getting Hamels for 4.5 years at just over 20 per year is actually quite desireable.
