I dunno, maybe it wasn't obvious that he was available? You have to think a lot of teams would pay him 2-3M and would have been willing to throw some cash or a PTBNL SF's way.

Goins could be useful as a guy you send back and forth to AAA depending on the health of Travis. Carrying him and Barney while Tulo and Travis are healthy would be silly, but having both in the org would be good for depth.

They've now given hundreds of PA to Stephen Drew and traded a useful pitcher for Starlin Castro just to avoid playing a young, cheap, league average hitting player in the position. The only way this makes any sense at all is if he's clearly a butcher. Like a Chris Colabello of second base. -

I'm happy I'm out on Ref. There's every reason to believe in his bat, but he's obviously not going to get a shot at 2B in New York. He must be brutal defensively.
