  1. Or the Angels. Or the Orioles. Or the Tigers. Or the White Sox. Single owners running elite organizations in huge markets (Baltimore excepted). If only the Jays had ownership like that!
  2. If only the Ottawa Senators were owned by a singe owner. Ownership would be so great.
  3. You have no idea if this is true. A top half payroll with a 70 cent dollar is pretty solid. Things can be (and have been) much, much worse.
  4. This is a grossly condescending statement and one that should be treated with the contempt it deserves. No-one has suggested that the 70-cent dollar equates to a 30% loss in operating income, but rather that holding American currency does not make them impervious to the 70-cent dollar. This is obvious and logical.
  5. I wish nobody had ever explained this to the casuals. The idea that it makes them impervious to the effects of a dollar that is well less than par for the foreseeable future is silly.
  6. Market size matters but the Canadian dollar hovering at around 70 cents is a non-factor?
  7. Even the book barely mentions Zito/Mulder/Hudson or Tejada and Chavez. It also makes it sounds like Beane found a bunch of gems in the draft with his stat scouting, when almost none of the college guys discussed in the book had a major league career. IIRC Swisher was the only hit, and he was a consensus 1st round pick anyway.
  8. Time to put Gibby out to pasture.

Not sure why, but starting your paragraph off with this made me lol. This place is ruthless sometimes.
  10. I'm not sure there's anyone on the planet that I'd want around 24/7. I can't imagine sitting in my living room while someone watches, like, Big Bang Theory or reality TV or something and not wanting to destroy them.
  11. Actually, no we don't. We both like our free time and space. It works. /BTS blog
  12. Ya sometimes. The thought of going on a date at this point is absolutely terrible to me. It's not like straight men can just turn on the grindr machine.
  13. I've been with Mrs. BTS for like 7 years. I'm doing it perfectly cromulently, and that's OK.
  14. That's a department in which I continually strive for mediocrity. Any better than that and expectations become too high.
  15. Apparently I'm the only person here who doesn't attach a negative connotation to the word 'mediocre'.
  16. I voted 'good'. I loved the Estrada and Happ signings. Addressing the rotation before pitching prices spiralled out of control was a great strategy. I also loved the restraint the FO showed. After last year's success, there was no doubt great temptation to continue to feed fan momentum, but they resisted the urge to risk more of the future for short term success. I'm not yet sold on the Chavez for Hendriks trade. I thought there were other ways to add rotation depth, and losing five years of Hendriks hurts. I'm also not convinced that trading Revere for Storen helped the team if another OF isn't brought in. If there is an acquisition (Bruce? Jackson?) then I don't think anyone can take issue with the sequence.
  17. ST is here, and the offseason is almost over. Shapiro took over on November 1st, so the entire offseason has been guided by the new regime. Key moves: MLB Free Agent Signings J.A. Happ (3/36) Marco Estrada (2/26) Darwin Barney (1/1.05) Gavin Floyd (1/1 + 1M in incentives) Josh Thole (1/0.8) Trades Liam Hendriks for Jesse Chavez Ben Revere for Drew Storen with Washington covering difference in salary Options Picked up Bautista (1/14) in lieu of 1M buyout Picked up Encarnacion (1/10) in lieu of 2M buyout Picked up Dickey (1/12) in lieu of 1M buyout How would you rate the offseason?
  18. Edwin is such a pro
  19. fatter ass: Sanchez or Anthopoulos?
  20. It's amazing how effectively his power play was turned around on him.
  21. Boxy is scooping up all shares of Domonic Brown
  22. You forgot the part where he threw the first dart by throwing ownership under the bus to national media. The team has effectively punched back.
  23. Jose getting a free lesson in how to conduct your business.
