It's the fake parity. There shouldn't be a shootout. 2 points for a win, 1 for a tie, 0 for a loss. The shootout is the worst thing to ever happen to the NHL. The salary cap also doesn't help. There are no villains anymore.

They've ended the season top-10 in each of the last three seasons (10th, 10th, 9th). I have no idea where they project to finish 2016 right now, but the season hasn't started yet and if they're outside the top-10 it isn't by much.

The reality is that you don't have the faintest clue what payroll would be if the team was sold. You have no idea how profitable the team is, you have no idea how long the dollar will be weak, you have no idea how how the weak dollar effects business. You have no idea who would buy the team, who they would put in place to run it, or what they would be consider to be an optimal payroll. You know nothing. I know nothing. But I know enough to be content with a great front office and ~top-10 payroll despite a very weak dollar, and to not whine incessantly about how great it would be if the team was sold.

Or the Angels. Or the Orioles. Or the Tigers. Or the White Sox. Single owners running elite organizations in huge markets (Baltimore excepted). If only the Jays had ownership like that!

If only the Ottawa Senators were owned by a singe owner. Ownership would be so great.

You have no idea if this is true. A top half payroll with a 70 cent dollar is pretty solid. Things can be (and have been) much, much worse.

This is a grossly condescending statement and one that should be treated with the contempt it deserves. No-one has suggested that the 70-cent dollar equates to a 30% loss in operating income, but rather that holding American currency does not make them impervious to the 70-cent dollar. This is obvious and logical.

I wish nobody had ever explained this to the casuals. The idea that it makes them impervious to the effects of a dollar that is well less than par for the foreseeable future is silly.

Even the book barely mentions Zito/Mulder/Hudson or Tejada and Chavez. It also makes it sounds like Beane found a bunch of gems in the draft with his stat scouting, when almost none of the college guys discussed in the book had a major league career. IIRC Swisher was the only hit, and he was a consensus 1st round pick anyway. -

I'm not sure there's anyone on the planet that I'd want around 24/7. I can't imagine sitting in my living room while someone watches, like, Big Bang Theory or reality TV or something and not wanting to destroy them.
