He's been working on developing secondary pitches with professional coaches since he was drafted almost 6 years ago, and still hasn't found a usable pitch. This narrative of him spending 3 months in AAA and discovering a wipeout changeup is silly. Just let him blow people away with that filthy fastball in high leverage relief innings.

Why would you prefer that owners make even more money than they already do?

There's really only downside there. In the above scenario there are two likely outcomes: 1) He pitches well, and opts out because he thinks he can do better than the remaining 3/90 on his contract. The team loses an ace pitcher on a palatable contract (that presumably has some trade value). 2) He sucks, and doesn't use the opt-out. The team is stuck with an albatross.

I really hope Carrera gets claimed by some NL team and I never see him on my TV again.

For me the big difference is that Ceciliani can apparently handle CF pretty well and Lake is a disaster.

I'd much prefer to see Ceciliani. By all accounts he's a legit defender at all three spots, can run, and has hit a bit in the minors. He's interesting. Lake can't hit, or play defense. But he's out of options, so I could see the team keeping him up.

Nope. I'm actually pretty excited about a 'no player option' policy. Those contracts are terrible for the team.

Did you not notice that 5 of the last 6 WS champions are teams with a lot of cheap homegrown talent? Prospects turn into cheap MLB talent, which is critical to success. -

Yeah who knows. It's probably a bunch of stuff. DRS has him at -20 runs over his career, and he's had some big LOB% issues with terrible numbers with runners on base. Maybe pitching from the stretch hurts him more than it hurts an average pitcher.

The opposite is probably true more often than not - mediocre arms run into some poor BABIP and sequencing luck early in their careers and get buried before their ERA can regress to their DIPS. Like when Sean Nolin was exiled after one bad inning.

Grant, you're completely insufferable. I actually agree with you that Sanchez is probably a very good reliever over the next few years. The comparison to Brandon League was not a slight. League had a stretch of 5 years from 2008-2012 where he averaged over 60 IP per season with a 7/3 K/BB, a 58% GB rate, an 83 ERA-, and an 84 xFIP- while using primarily a GB inducing 95+ MPH fastball. League was a good reliever. I think Sanchez will be a good reliever. I think Sanchez will do it similarly to the way League did it: ~7/3 K/BB, GB rate around 60%, big velo fastball as his best pitch. I don't believe that you actually don't see the similarities there. They're very similar pitchers. Maybe Sanchez has a better run. Maybe he doesn't.
