  1. I doubt very much that he cared.
  2. Yeah. Even in cases like Lucroy's, future salary would have been on his mind when Cleveland told him he wouldn't be a full time catcher next year.
  3. You don't think a player's relationship with players, management, and coaches impacts his decision to stay with his team, or sign with a new one? Of course it does. That's human nature.
  4. I've always thought that despite what they have to say in the media, team success is probably like the 5th or 6th most important factor in deciding where to play: 1. salary 2. how much the city works for them and their family 3. tax impacts of living in that city 4. relationships they have with people employed by the team 5. odds of team success The fans like to assume that 5 is everything, and generally the players play along.
  5. The Lucroy meme is stupid.
  6. Only reason I think they might hesitate is that he was banged up to end the season. But with their staff in shambled, you kind of have to ride your ace as far as he can take you.
  7. Looking at the schedule, I think we could see Kluber 3 times: Friday - Kluber (5+ days rest) Saturday - Bauer (5+ days rest) Monday - Tomlin (5 days rest) Tuesday - Kluber (3 days rest) Wednesday - Bauer (3 days rest) Saturday - Kluber (3 days rest) Would they pitch him twice in a row on 3 days? Would that even be preferable to twice and a Clevinger/bullpen game?
  8. Cleveland is an interesting team. Their roster doesn't seem strong without Brantley, Salazar, and Carrasco. Maybe it isn't. But they have a lot of tough outs with their set 1-6 and dual OF platoons 7-8. We're gonna see some well-managed fundamental beisbol.
  9. For some reason it's hilarious to me that Grilli has 77% of the vote in this poll with 20 options.
  10. Clearly Grilli. Guy didn't get that legit dad bod by not pounding beers.
  11. New York is just now recovering from years spent paying vets for past performance. Toronto has been extremely lucky so far in that Guys like Buehrle, Dickey, and maybe Bautista waited until the last years of their deals to fall apart, and I think it might be clouding people's perspective of just how rare it is for big contracts extending well into a player's 30s to work out well.
  12. 1.6M for Barney vs. 0.5M for Goins should be a no-brainer in favour of Barney. Ryan Goins CAN NOT stick.
  13. They seem to be under the impression that he's good, so I'll be surprised if they non-tender him.
  14. I think an 8/240 deal this offseason would be easily defensible from the FO. I have no idea if that's something they'd even entertain though.
  15. Meh. They pissed a lot of fans off when they didn't re-sign Price. No nobody gives a s***.
  16. I think you're right, with the exception of Barney. He probably gets enough on the open market that non-tendering him and signing him for less isn't realistic.
  17. Going forward, the far more impactful question is regarding Donaldson. He has two years of team control left, and the team might be best deciding now if they're comfortable extending him for $250M. If not, they have to start looking at trade possibilities.
  18. Cleveland seems like the much easier draw.
  19. Errand post
  20. Just stat-scouted him. Looks legit.
  21. errand throw
  22. Going to put Seth Lugo on the block. xFIP wasn't great, but he sits 92, touches mid-90s and throws the highest spin-rate curveball in baseball. I'll keep him if I don't get an offer I like, but he might be of more interest to someone who's more content than I am with a high-variance pitching staff. Would like a 1st round pick (MiLB or waiver) or a catcher.
  23. Anyone in good health who has swung a bat before can hit a 90 mph fastball if that's all they're seeing. They might not hit it well, but they'll put it in play occasionally.
  24. Fried chicken and waffles is an elite-level meal. I have a very hard time convincing people to join me in f***ing my body up like that though.
