You're not alone. The salary cap has made the level of talent in the NHL extremely flat, and there's so much parity that teams with rosters that are expected to be terrible can actually be elite (see Vegas and the Islanders the last couple of years). It would be like watching baseball and every year there are several 2019 Giants and Blue Jays that win 97 games. If you prefer that success feel like the outcome of years of careful planning and good decisions, and not like something you luck into, the current state of the NHL isn't very fun. When success is easy to obtain, it becomes cheapened, and the cap combined with the absurd standings have cheapened success. Winning in hockey isn't necessarily the outcome of deliberately outcompeting the other 30 front offices over an extended period of time.

I got 1.5 years of Godley + Chapman. I'll probably drop Godley, and Chapman was moved for Piscotty and Kikuchi. You got Florial, Kieboom, Paulino, and Brinson. I don't imagine either of us are really thrilled or disappointed with the deal a year and a half later.

I don't think there will be a 3-year guarantee out there for Smoak. Maybe two years. Dude will be 33 and plays 1B.

Seems like something like: 2020: 8M 2021: 8M team option with 2M buyout would be about Smoak's market value. I'd give it to him.

If I banned people for thinking stupid things, you'd never post here and Spanky would have caught a ban an hour ago. Re: xFIP. You're being disingenuous and arguing in bad faith, but that's been your MO here for a decade. He might beat it consistently but not by a run or more. If he's rolling out an xFIP close to 5, we can expect an ERA well over 4. He's not going to be a good starter walking 5/9. That's just not going to happen. He's run an xFIP over 5 since 2016, and the ERA, while a bit lower, has also been bad.

But seriously, Aaron Sanchez was legitimately good in 2016. There's no question about that. Since then he's started 32 games, has an ERA of 4.47, an xFIP of 5.03, and his K/BB is 7.2/5. He has major concerns about his ability to stay healthy, and also about his ability to pitch well when he is healthy, given that he's been a good starter once in his career, and it was 3 years ago. I really can't stress how insane I think it would be to give Aaron Sanchez 60M. Maybe he's about to go on a great run and return to the guy he was in 2016, but until that happens, he's the kind of guy you pay a few million bucks to hold down the 5th starter spot.
