I think Gonzales vs. McHugh comes down to personal preference at this point. Gonzales is a SP, but his velo is down 2 ticks to 88-89 and he's been really bad this year. McHugh was also bad, but is now probably a pretty good reliever with SP eligibility. Would you trade Gonzales for Seth Lugo? I think asking for MiLB 10 + McHugh for Gonzales + robles is worse than me thinking you just preferred McHugh to Gonzales and didn't care about Hansel Robles.

I don't know anything about basketball, but Milwuakee seems weird as f***. Giannis plays like a PG, and they have a C who averages twice as many 3 attempts as 2 point attempts a game?

I don't really want to. I picked up Pence as a placeholder, then he went on a massive heater, and now I have a body too many. I think Gardner is rosterable. Also, I have no adds left this week anyway.

I'll be dropping Brett Gardner tomorrow unless someone offers me a waiver or MiLB pick for him. He's been useful despite an 88 wRC+ and 0.196 BABIP.

Monster week for TCA. It's weird that Silvergun is going to be under 0.500 in mid May.

The core of the 2015 team was Price, Buehrle, Stro, Edwin, JD Tulo, Martin and Bautista. Between retirements, massive declines in ability, and in the case of Price, huge free agent deals, the core was gutted organically because it was only built to be temporary. As Hurk said, the best thing Shatkins has done is avoided the temptation to keep that ageing group together. -
It’s more that he used prospect capital to buy old guys on FA deals. The rebuild was always coming.

I distinctly remember many people on this board wanting to extend Bautista long term because he kept his body in great shape and has great plate discipline. The Ortiz comps were all over the place. And people on this board are smarter than the twitter/reddit community. I’m sure 95% of jays fans would have applauded a 5-year Bautista extension after 2015.

We know Mark Shapiro is better than this. He put a very good baseball ops department in place in Cleveland, and we've seen the results play out over the last few years, over which they've had a good team on a low budget. Moreover, we've heard Shapiro speak intelligently about baseball every time he gets in front of a camera. And he's done his job as President well here, as far as we can tell. We've been assuming that Ross Atkins is a smart, capable man because he was hired by a guy we know to be a smart, capable man. We're probably right. But there's at least a possibility that Ross Atkins isn't as smart or capable as we think he is. Because he's never actually displayed it - we've just been assuming that Shapiro wouldn't hire an idiot. At some point in the near-future the GM is going to have to display an ability to put 25 talented players on the field and earn the solid reputation that he currently has with us because of his association with Mark Shapiro.

There were also rumours that Beane didn't care much for JD on a personal level, which motivated the trade. As far as I'm aware, there are no such rumours about Chapman.
