  1. It's 14 months. He's not playing again this year, and then he would have been off for 4 months for the winter. We're talking about forgoing $18M next season because he doesn't want to go to a few doctors appointments over an 6-7 month stretch in 2020. He likely would have received the Prince Fielder treatment next year anyway and spent the year at home.
  2. The only two cases I can think in the 20+ years I've been watching baseball of are Gil Meche and Ryan Dempster. But in both cases, the players were physically able to play and just didn't want to anymore. I can't think of a single case where the player is hurt and forfeits significant cash instead of just spending time at home 're-habbing'. We don't know for sure that Tulo would have suck around for $18M, but we pretty much now for sure that Tulo would have stuck around for $18M. The retirement paperwork wouldn't have been signed now if it cost him money.
  3. Still in the market for another good starter. Can build a package around Alex Kirilloff and/or Drew Waters.
  4. There is literally zero chance Tulo would have officially retired if he were still Jays property. He would have gone through whatever motions were necessary to collect his $20M or whatever he’s owed next year.
  5. Nothing - he gets all of it.
  6. Trying to sell Porcello as impactful deadline addition while you yourself are sitting in 2nd place and actively shopping him is a tough sell my man.
  7. - Lester worked out great and was a critical part of some very successful teams. - Lackey gave them 3.5 fWAR and 5.8 RA-9 WAR while eating up 60 starts for 32M over a 2-year stretch. - Zobrist gave them 8 fWAR for 56M (possibly less - I'm not sure he's even getting paid this year) Heyward has been a worst-case scenario, as it looks like he'll end the season having provided about 6 fWAR for 76.5M (12-13M per win). I don't feel like calculating what they've paid on the aggregate for these signings, but I'm guessing it's something a bit less than 10M per win. But I think it's worth pointing out that perpetually competitive big-market teams aren't trying to win the $/WAR title. They're trying to win actual baseball games. Cubs are probably going to go to the playoffs for the 5th consecutive year. Over that stretch they have two NLC titles and a World Series championship. They needed the wins they bought on the FA market, even if paying 10M per on the FA isn't ideal. They didn't necessarily have other means of acquiring those wins. I doubt the team or their fans are unhappy with the team's forays into free agency on the aggregate.
  8. Lester was a huge signing for the Cubs that worked out very well. Houston hasn't signed any major FAs, but did extend Verlander for 2/66 and give Altuve 150M. Most good orgs keep their own stars around. Not retaining Stro is the opposite of how the best orgs typically operate, especially if he's only looking for 5/90 or something.
  9. You think Stroman works harder than most other pitchers at about his level of ability?
  10. I don't think the team would regret giving him that. He's a solid SP2 with no current arm or shoulder concerns. Based on recent extensions though (Hendricks, Mikolas) it seems like he'll probably sign for less? 5/90 would be good for both parties I think.
  11. Go back and read posts here when he was still productive. The Cruz and Ortiz comps flowed like Leaf fan tears after a playoff series against Boston. Posters were convinced that his great plate discipline, work ethic, and physical condition would lead to extended productivity into his late 30s, and then it didn't happen at all. I'd actually be quite happy with a Stro extension, but expecting him to age particularly well because of his work ethic is silly.
  12. Ugh, I want to trade for Turnbull but I feel like Detroit is going to leave him on the active roster in September and just not use him because of his innings limit. Good buy opportunity for a rebuilding team!
  13. Bautista is very much a fair comparison when it comes to the fans' ability to predict who will defy ageing curves based on things like work ethic and skill set. There's no reason to think Stro will age any better than any other ~3-win starter his age with similar arm/shoulder health.
  14. You never know about that stuff man. We also though Bautista would age like Ortiz and Cruz and then he fell off a cliff.
  15. No interest at all in Andujar for Stroman or Giles. He's a 1B who's projected to be a league-average bat.
  16. So nobody is selling starting pitching for picks/prospects?
  17. The Twins and Padres packages are far too heavy and I don't see the Braves selling Inciarte before a playoff run, and the NY and Boston packages are too light IMO
  18. Legit forgot Travis even existed.
  19. There's always the option of not beating your wife.
  20. Absolutely shameless. You are without shame.
  21. Forgot to sign in to your Carlos Danger account.
  22. Sheet is completely updated. Look over your team to make sure everything checks out.
