  1. I believe Orgfiller should have Boxy's 6th rounder for our Kendrick trade.
  2. I'm upset that you rebuffed my advances on him early in the season.
  3. There was a shocking lack of SP available. Wade Miley and Steven Matz were pretty much it.
  4. That was definitely the worst trade deadline in league history.
  5. P2F 6.5 games back of Hurl for 8th, with only Jim between them. Last 3 weeks should be interesting.
  6. Interested in buying a starter, maybe a reliever too if anyone is around.
  7. The Rays just pulled Yarbrough with nobody on base, one out away from a complete game shutout. He was at 99 pitches. The Rays wonder why they have no fans.
  8. So Wade Miley is the only SP on the market?
  9. Anyone actually know when the deadline is? Yahoo just says August 11th.
  10. Jim, you got real lucky that JD Davis didn’t accrue any stats for you.
  11. Yup. If the team had money burning a hole in its pocket that major free agents just wouldn't take, Yu Darvish would have been a Blue Jay. If they had been consistently rebuffed by players who didn't want to come here, they would have jumped at the opportunity to throw all that money at a guy who was forced by the system to go to the highest bidder for his services. But they didn't sign Darvish for the same reason that they haven't signed any other top-tier FAs: they've had no interest in spending major money on a big-time player.
  12. Have there? I remember the jays being rebuffed by Ervin Santana and Gil Meche. Nothing else comes to mind.
  13. I don’t think we’ve actually tried to sign major free agents. We’ve been a big market team acting like a mid- (and often small) market team, and I think to at least some extent blaming it on free agents considering Toronto to be MLB’s Siberia. With the luxury tax effectively acting like a hard cap for most teams, there’s an opportunity for a market like Toronto to get in on the top guys without competing against teams like the Cubs, Yankees, Red Sox etc... we just saw San Diego sign a guy who would have been swallowed up by NY or LA back when the tax had less teeth. I think the limiting factor here is that Toronto won’t offer a major FA 200M, much more so than major FAs not being willing to come to Toronto except for a massive overpayment.
  14. This is likely ********. Toronto is a world class city and there's no reason to believe that players wouldn't come here except in the case of a massive premium being paid. We haven't signed major free agents because we haven't tried to sign major free agents. It might not happen this offseason, coming off a 90-100 loss year, but there's no reason to think that a competitive Toronto team would be considered an undesirable destination by free agents.
  15. We were on a crazy long run without board drama, but this last week on BJMB has been a horror show.
  16. He thinks he knows details about Spanky's personal life. He's been told that if he posts them again he'll be permabanned. He's very upset about it.
  17. I can see Hurl’s decision to reverse your permaban is working out very well.
  18. I wouldn't complain if they gave that to Cole. Greinke got 6/206 four years ago. Cole is better and younger than Greinke.
  19. I've been waiting for comments like this from management for awhile now. Losing 90+ games while making absolutely no effort whatsoever to be respectable is fine for a season, but it can't happen again next year. I love Mark Shapiro.
  20. Yes, it is very common.
  21. A lot of the mega-contracts for legit aces have worked out well. Scherzer provided tons of surplus. Greinke was great for Arizona. Strasburg is 3 years into a 7-year deal and has provided 12.1 fWAR. Getting someone like Cole, who has zero red flags, either performance or health-wise, to be the head of the rotation, makes a lot of sense.
  22. roasted cashews and a banana
  23. Don't even bother following the draft, because most of those prospects are going to fail.
