  1. Romo still has that 9+ K/9 and 5/1 K/BB talent. You guys need more Romo in your lives.
  2. It just seems like, barring short-term rentals, every time a team trades 3-4 good young guys for an elite player, they win. At the time of the trade everyone talks about the great possibilities presented by 11ty seasons of team control, but it almost always turns out that the the team getting the elite talent wins the deal. Actually, it would be interesting to see examples of similar deals that went the other way. Say your criteria is: - Team A moves 3+ arb seasons of a player reasonably projected at 3+ WAR at the time of the deal. - Team B moves multiple assets that are less proven and have more team control How many examples are there where team B regrets their decision?
  3. So does anyone want to trade a pick for Sergio Romo?
  4. I don't dislike Stroman, I'm just not really into young pitchers as long-term assets. It wouldn't surprising to see 170 innings of 3.5 ERA ball next year, but it also wouldn't be surprising if he hits the wall a bit or his arm falls off.
  5. Also, F. Torres: welcome to the board. You seem like a great addition.
  6. 2-3 years ago I would have wanted to keep the kids and dream on the sexy $/WAR possibilities. Now? Give me the franchise player. I'm comfortable betting on attrition of guys like Lawrie/Pompey/Stroman, and if they're going to be league-average players, you can find that a lot easier than you can find a top-15 player.
  7. We won't agree because we have very different perceptions of the value of guys like Stroman and Gray. I wouldn't even consider Stroman for my top-50 in terms of trade value, while Donaldson is likely top-15 .
  8. Wait, Greenwood was jariax?
  9. Generally when fans of a team balk at moving 2-3 lesser assets for multiple years of a legit MVP candidate, they end up being wrong. Getting 4 arb years of a 6-win player is ridiculously valuable. And he'll be 33 when he hits free agency, so he'll never get the kind of mega-deal that this team finds prohibitive. There's a decent chance you're adding a franchise player who will be here for the long haul.
  10. Really? I'd do it easily.
  11. Would Oakland accept Lawrie, Pompey, and Stroman?

When the Jays are the healthiest org you cheer for life is a sad place.

Ryan is miscast as a franchise building block, and both his acquisition and extension were the result of desperation - desperation last year to acquire a name after Alfredsson had enough, and desperation this year to keep a player they invested heavily in. I think both decisions were poor. Last offseason was not the time for a two-year rental, and Ryan isn't a guy you build around to the tune of a 7/50+ contract. 3rd tier star for a 3rd tier org.

He's just not that good a player.

Anytime you can move three good young assets for 2 years of a one-dimensional scoring winger who isn't elite, and then lock him up for 8 years at near elite money because the optics of letting him walk would be terrible, you do it. Especially when you won't even make the playoffs in the two years you originally acquired. FML

    Lol Ottawa
  17. Nobody looks good in this exchange.
  18. No, I just didn't feel like a Wilson debate.
  19. Yup, the BBDL is definitely a good way to gauge player values.
  20. These are pretty much non-factors though. Well, Wilson is a guy I guess.
  21. Yeah, I guess it is nice to have someone to bounce an idea off of. Every once in awhile I'll solicit an opinion from a 3rd party. I could never have someone making roster moves for me though.
  22. Imagine if Pittsburgh had Bautista now?
  23. I don't understand the love for co-managers. I'm far too anal about this to let someone make decisions for me.
