  1. He is worth taking a chance on, but if were talking Garza or Kazmir, its not even close. Plus it was for $22M not $17M according to MLB trade rumors.
  2. I would rather have a guy who hasn't been broken the majority of his career. We have enough of that with Morrow.
  3. Not that I am advocating going the trade route, but money is an asset as well. It's probably much easier for AA to go to Rogers with a trade for a pitcher like Samardiza who will cost what? $14-$15M? over the next two years giving up prospects they probably never even heard of, compared to spending $60-$75M on a FA SP.
  4. Doesn't seem like AA is in on any FA. Could mean a trade or two by the end of the winter meetings....
  5. Twins making progress on Pierzinski. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/11/twins-making-progress-on-pierzynski-targeting-pelfrey.html
  6. Stroman. I don't really care if he deals Sanchez.
  7. The cost for pitching just keeps going up. I'm certain AA is going to go the trade route.
  8. Twins to sign Hughes. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/11/twins-to-sign-phil-hughes.html
  9. Yeah I think it will come down to Rasmus willingness to sign an extension. I can't see AA moving Rasmus unless he knows he won't sign.
  10. A lot had to do with the fact that Dickey signed a very team friendly contract. I know we gave up a lot in the deal and I would never have made that deal obviously, but part of AA's thinking on this much have been cost control. Dickey at $12M per is a solid contract. I get that everyone hates what we gave up last winter, but its really time to stop dwelling on it because its pointless.
  11. I just hope Rasmus isn't a part of the deal if something like this goes down. I would much rather extend him and move Gose.
  12. That's a valid point. I never expected him to come into our division and be an ace, but I did think he would be better than what he performed. The second half was more in line with what I was hoping to get out of him, so if he can give us something reasonably close to that type of production in 2014, I think that would be fine.
  13. I hate the idea of dealing Rasmus, but it does seem like a strong possibility that he would be involved.
  14. Yup, I mentioned this a while ago that I think this is a very likely scenario. Both teams match up well for a deal.
  15. Yeah I think that's fair. His days of being considered an ace are over. I like him as a 2/3 as he will have days where he just makes lineups look silly and others where he gets teed off. The life of a knuckleballer. Really though, he should see a bit of a rebound year considering his strong second half and the fact that he probably has several years left on that arm.
  16. Why would the Reds want Buehrle when the whole reason they want to move Phillips is to free payroll?
  17. Yes and no. Would you be surprised if Dickey posted a better season in 2014 compared to 2013?
  18. Moving this to the random non thread worthy thread.
  19. Why wouldn't we be able to extend Rasmus?
  20. Yeah, I am comfortable saying I expect Stroman to end up being the better of the two as well. I just think he is more of a polished product and this team being in a win now mode could benefit from having a young and polished arm waiting in AAA. Going after a guy like Shark or even Bailey could give us a decent duo of youngsters if Stroman pans out. I don't mind trading prospects like Sanchez when the return is cheap quality MLB players when your trying to compete. Rebuilding is another story, but were not at that stage.
  21. We would very likely get more than just Profar, but the scenario was Bautista for Profar straight up and even still I would do that and I think its a win-win for both teams.
  22. It could actually help both teams win now. Rangers get another big power bat which they probably need and the Jays get Profar which addresses their 2B need now and for the future. Sure Profar is a gamble, but its a gamble that also saves this team $42M over the next three years (assuming Bautista's option is picked up). That allows the Jays for instance to go out and sign a FA SP like Jimenez/Santana at an AAV around that mark. Personally Profar + Jimenez/Santana > Bautista, with payroll remaining in tact. Or perhaps another scenario is that AA trades for Profar, then goes out and deals for Shark for instance. Shark is probably going to make $5-6M through Arbitration this year, and im just going to guess he probably gets $9-10M in 2015 for simplicity sake. That still saves this team about $26-28M over the next three seasons all the while this team is now younger and has addressed a glaring hole at 2B and the rotation. Assuming AA has a budget of ~$150M wo play with, were probably sitting at about a $124M payroll after both trades. This now provides both an opportunity for AA to either dive into FA and acquire another key player or try and lock up both Rasmus and Shark on longer term deals. Personally, I like the second scenario better, even if it requires dealing of Sanchez who I am not that high on anyways. Team gets younger, better and cheaper.
  23. Its an easy yes for me. I would obviously try to push the fact that Bautista should get more in return, but at the end of the day, Profar is just to great of an asset to pass up. From the standpoint of the Jays, Bautista is an aging asset and injuries have been popping up, so I would rather move him now, save that salary and invest it into either a FA player or extending a player like Rasmus or whatever else young talent we obtain via trade this winter.
  24. After the Jays finish over .500 in 2014, AA probably gets a 10 year extension, and Beeston gets a lifetime contract, lol.
  25. Closing this thread, it serves no purpose.
