  1. Could make sense as a rental BUT would he give up too many HR's at the RC...
  2. By Mark Polishuk [July 4, 2014 at 10:20am CDT] The Mets will listen to offers for Bartolo Colon and could even start openly shopping the veteran right-hander, team sources tell Mike Puma of the New York Post. There is no indication a deal would happen soon, however, as the team could wait until after the July 31st deadline since GM Sandy Alderson “has no pressure” to trade Colon. (Puma points out that Alderson waited until late August 2013 to make the Marlon Byrd trade with the Pirates). Colon turned 41 years old in May and his late-career renaissance is still going strong. The veteran has posted a 3.88 ERA and a 5.27 K/BB over 106 2/3 IP as a Met, with 79 strikeouts and a league-low 1.3 walks per nine innings. Those numbers do carry some heavy ballpark splits, as Colon has a 2.11 ERA in six Citi Field starts and a 5.06 ERA in 10 road starts. Despite Colon’s age, the two-year, $20MM contract he signed with New York last winter is considered to be “relatively friendly,” an AL executive tells Puma. Colon is owed roughly $4.4MM for the remainder of this season and is owed $11MM for 2015. Moving Colon would line the Mets up for a full-scale pitching youth movement in 2015. Jon Niese and Dillon Gee would be the most experienced members of a projected rotation that would also include a returning Matt Harvey and the likes of Zack Wheeler, Jacob deGrom, while prospects Rafael Montero and Noah Syndergaard could also be candidates to win jobs. In this situation you could also expect the Mets to sign at least one veteran arm for depth purposes during the offseason, a la their addition of Daisuke Matsuzaka last winter. Also from Puma’s piece, he notes that the Mets are “reluctant” to trade Niese, which fits with Alderson’s recent statements about Niese’s availability (or lack thereof). Niese, for his part, tells Puma that he wants to remain with the Mets.
  3. Glad we didn't trade for Peavey I guess though I was in favour at the time...
  4. All right Need to win today ourselves
  5. Reyes (3pts) - Melky (3pts) - Bautista (1pt) - G-Snarls Eddy (1pt) - Lind (2pts) - Rasmus (2pts) - Juan (1pt) - Navarro (4pts) - Gose (8pts) - Kawasaki (9pts!) - Bench (10pts) If Bautista doesn't play for some reason please change my pick to Edwin
  6. Have to say, we are now at the point where we have had an least an average number of impactful injuries for a team this season Not devastating like Rangers or Yankees but bad enough that our infield problem is being exposed anyhow Really wish AA had nabbed a 2B this off season instead of waiting until now to (maybe) get it done
  7. Fortunately, today is a new day and we have Stroman going If only we matched up better against the lefty
  8. Those plus Tulo, Stanton, Posey off top of head plus several pitchers but that's not really fair I suppose
  9. Aldridge likely PED suspect 180 wRC+ in AAA Mexican league and AA New Hampshire at age 35 Give him 3 weeks on the Jays before the juice wears off LOLOL
  10. Wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy out on ______________________________ limb Corey Aldridge??
  11. So now the OF (other than Gose) will suck though Gose, Cabrera and who? Tolleson?
  12. I can name at least 10 players that I would bet $100 on being better than Harper in 2 years
  13. Regarless we need a real infielder Kawasaki is fine as a backup but he should not be anything more Beltre or Utley (with salary relief) would be brilliant, though ideally AA nabs a good young 2B with upside
  14. Still, though Harper looks like a phenomenal buy-low candidate, I don't see the Nats dealing him, even if he is a bit of a PITA. Still so much potential.
  15. Bautista should probably sit today
  16. Sorry folks but Izturis sucks
  17. Remember when people used to debate who would be better, Trout or Harper? Those debates don't exist any more.
  18. A's stadium lease extension includes promises of upgrades and repairs: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/mlb/as-agree-to-lease-extension-at-oco-coliseum-through-2024?ymd=20140703&content_id=82914514&vkey=news_mlb OAKLAND -- The A's and the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Authority have agreed on a 10-year lease extension to keep the club at the Coliseum through the 2024 season. The agreement, announced Thursday morning following a 14-month negotiation period, will be finalized later this month once it's approved by the Oakland City Council and the Alameda County Board of Supervisors. "After much diligence and cooperation from both parties, we are delighted to make this announcement today," A's owner Lew Wolff said in a statement released by the club. "We believe this agreement works well for city and county taxpayers, the team, A's fans and all involved. It provides stability for the A's, while also improving fan and player experience with significant upgrades and improvements at the facility." Coliseum Authority chairman Nate Miley was also quoted in the statement, saying, "This is truly a fantastic day for Oakland A's fans, Oakland taxpayers, public entities and the team. By reaching this agreement, both the franchise and the community have charted a course of stability for the next decade. We know that the A's and their loyal, passionate fans will be connected for years to come at the Coliseum site." The deal nearly didn't happen. On Wednesday, it was revealed that four members of the Joint Powers Authority were expected to vote against it, leading Wolff to reach out to Commissioner Bud Selig, who reportedly granted Wolff permission to move the team outside Oakland unless a deal was approved. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Wolff sent an email to Oakland officials at 10 p.m. Wednesday, in which he wrote: "I was informed tonight that Commissioner Selig, due to the possibility of not having the hearing and vote that we were purported to receive from the JPA, that we will immediately be allowed to seek a temporary or permanent location outside the city of Oakland." That email prompted new negotiations, and on Thursday morning, the deal was approved by a 6-2 vote. Among the terms of the new extension is a commitment of more than $10 million by the A's for Coliseum upgrades, including the installation of new HD videoboards, as well as ribbon boards between the field and plaza level at the stadium. The Coliseum Authority will pay for any necessary structural work, and all upgrades and improvements will be completed by the start of next season. The deal permits the team to leave the Coliseum so long as it gives two years' notice and continues paying the lease for the remainder of the 10-year term. The A's do not have to make these payments, however, if they move to another stadium within Oakland.
  19. Rockies To Sign Chris Capuano By Mark Polishuk [July 4, 2014 at 7:47am CDT] The Rockies and left-hander Chris Capuano have agreed on a minor league contract, CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman reports (via Twitter).
  20. The defense suffers so much when he's out it's ridiculous Not just at 3B, but the ripple effect on the rest of the infield is enormous. We now have sub-par defenders at every infield position. (well Kawasaki is normally a decent defender at 2B, don't know what happened to him last night)
  21. Sorry if posted already, but Bryce Harper has been complaining a lot lately. First about hitting 6th, then about playing left field instead of center http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/06/30/bryce-harper-isnt-thrilled-about-the-nationals-lineup-tonight/ Maybe he should worry more about staying healthy and playing better. He's only played 25 games this year and has ONE home run and a .764 OPS
