  1. Davidi article comtemplating whether Jays should try to sign Stroman and Sanchez to Carrasco and Kluber-esque deals now: Now could be the time for Jays to talk extension with Stroman, Sanchez http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/now-time-jays-talk-extension-stroman-sanchez/
  2. Stanton could become a 50% of payroll guy in a few years LOL
  3. Home/away series 2 games each I see Will be curious to see if he ends up pitching in Toronto or not. He'll get a pretty mixed reaction even though it should be a mostly positive one.
  4. Damn though, there were stretches when he made good hitters look horrible http://mlb.mlb.com/images/8/4/2/178058842/051316_beltre_knee_med_87r24w8d.gif
  5. Say, do we play the Braves this year? Would love to face him
  6. You mean like this? http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a285/lozocara/radickey.gif Well that happened so many times is the thing
  7. I tell yah, having Sanchez get this good reduces the pain of missing Syndergaard at least a bit (cause the Mets were getting one or the other) If Sanchez had become nothing more than a high velocity high walk rate middle reliever it would sting a lot more
  8. I think he might be this good, yes. And true, could put up a little more WAR if he makes 4-5 more starts.
  9. Seems very unlikely to make the team
  10. It says these guys are all done: Aaron Loup Blue Jays $1.125MM Darwin Barney Blue Jays $2.888MM Ezequiel Carrera Blue Jays $1.163MM
  11. This made me look up outstanding arbitration cases and it seems only Stroman is still not settled. Am I looking at this correctly? http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/arbtracker2017 Marcus Stroman Blue Jays Player: $3.400MM Team: $3.100MM
  12. http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/blue-jays-continue-exploring-free-agent-relief-market/ TORONTO – The Toronto Blue Jays are continuing to explore the market for relief pitching, even after agreeing to terms with left-hander J.P. Howell. The club appears to be keeping its options open, with both left-handers and right-handers on the radar this week. Price will be a factor for the Blue Jays, who have committed approximately $153 million to their 2017 payroll. Add in $1.25 million if Jarrod Saltalamacchia makes the team plus $5 million or so for pre-arbitration eligible players like Kevin Pillar and Aaron Sanchez, and the Blue Jays are pushing close to $160 million. Given those commitments it’d be a surprise if the Blue Jays spent big on a reliever at this point. Toronto watched Craig Breslow work out last week and has since remained in contact with the free agent lefty, whose 2016 struggles should keep his price relatively modest. They could also conceivably expand their search for bullpen arms to include pitchers who have spent most of their careers starting. At present, the Blue Jays’ bullpen features closer Roberto Osuna, setup relievers Jason Grilli and Joe Biagini, and Howell, who now projects as their primary left-hander. Beyond that group, manager John Gibbons and pitching coach Pete Walker will evaluate a broad selection of relievers including Ryan Tepera, Danny Barnes, Mike Bolsinger, Gavin Floyd, Glenn Sparkman, Bo Schultz, Aaron Loup, Chad Girodo and Matt Dermody. If the Blue Jays' relief search goes well, another arm could join that mix when pitchers and catchers report in two weeks' time.
  13. Who would you have signed or traded for with that money?
  14. Last year's opening day payroll was 63,908,300 so Braun at 19M was set to receive 29.7% of it
  15. Stroman certainly could be better, in fact I'd expect him to be And Liriano better than Dickey yes Hard to imagine Sanchez being any better though... dude had a 143 ERA+ and finished 7th in Cy Young voting And it's hard to see BOTH Happ and Estrada keeping it up too, though that would be awesome
  16. I would put money on Bautista and Martin both posting a higher WAR in 2017
  17. Good point on the rest of the division The team could be "as good" as 2016 and still win fewer games
  18. It feels pretty close to me No Goins or Thole Bullpen about the same Core players still very good Bautista, Upton and Travis will almost certainly be better this year Someone in the starting rotation will probably get hurt or have a bad year but there is better depth Overall feels equivalent to maybe 1-2 wins less, with the ability to improve at the trade deadline if they're in it
  19. How much of an impact will Gibby have managing the LF and 1B platoons?
  20. Mets are trying to turn Jose Reyes into a super utility guy who can play center field: http://www.northjersey.com/story/sports/mlb/mets/2017/02/01/reyes-ready-outfield/97335198/
  21. Logan will get a lot more $ than Howell I presume?
  22. With only about 2 weeks to spring training, the roster changes are likely done barring some major surprise or minor deals. This is probably the team. Deals and players we got and didn't get have been discussed at length in the roster thread, now we can discuss the overall team as it stands. Briefly: - The starting rotation is the same as we ended the season with. It looks good though we were lucky with health last year. - Dickey and Thole are both gone - Bautista is back - Edwin is gone :( - Cecil is gone, replaced with Howell - Rest of the bullpen is similar - Morales and Pearce look like good price/performance signings - The cornertsone veterans of Donaldson/Tulo/Martin are back and a year older - The bench is not bad with Zeke, Salty and Barney So... What do you think. Is this team better, worse or about the same as the 2016 team and why?
