    At least all 3 (of Upton Pompey and Carerra) provide speed and all can play defense though Carrera less well. None of them should be hitting leadoff though and that's what Gibby will want.

    Gurriel + 3 first round draft picks and not trading away any prospects this off season, yes. That could mean younger and more athletic by 2018/2019. In the meantime try to maintain a playoff hopeful team with shorter year free agent deals. I can buy that. I believe in this front office

    That totally makes sense too, avoiding long term FA deals while they draft and develop young talent without trading it away

    I mean if the deal becomes signing a bunch of early-mid 30's guys who can string hits together, to complement a good starting rotation, that could work too But if so we might be subtracting both power AND speed

    OK, I like the Morales signing and want Pearce too - moreso actually But... I thought the plan was to get younger and more athletic

    I'm sure that's true 1 or 2 of those guys could easily still be looking for a job come February and have to accept a 1 year deal

    It doesn't always work like that though and we don't know what goes on behind closed doors For all we know Edwin has told them no way he signs here for what the Jays are willing to offer, Beltran's agent won't even return our calls and Morales said the Royals are offering the same deal and they have to decide within 24 hours or he'll sign there I made all that up but hopefully it makes the point

    Which do you dislike more - year 3 for Morales or years 4 and 5 for Edwin (if it takes 5)

    Same He stabilizes LF for 3 years, doesn't cost a draft pick and leaves enough $ available compared to ohers you still have probably a bit of payroll to work with
