    Earl Weaver sounds like he was awesome. 94 career ejections. Some of them from before a game even started. He'd get thrown out for chirping the umps before the game even started. LOL.

    Really both guys have been underwhelming obviously. They should both be >800 OPS bats. Both have seemingly lost almost all of their extra base power. I agree that Melky probably gets better once he's past his current leg problems.

    Oh for sure. He's had 2 really really good MLB seasons and Snider never has. Melky was hitting way better in spring training. He still has it in him.

    *IF* the Blue Jays could take 3/4 at home against Boston (quite possible. We do well against Biston anyway and we will not face Lackey or Bucholtz) the AL East race would be very tight. Only 6 games would separate us from Boston and we might pass someone in the process. As it stands things are tightening up:

    For the record? I was against the Snider trade. But once he was gone I thought the Cabrera signing was fantastic But he hasn't lived up to expectations

    Snider is getting full playing time for the Pirates. Although he's hitting for a lower average his OBP is similar and slugging is a bit better. Both are unspectacular but dependable defenders. Melky supposedly has a plus arm but I don't recall a single OF assist this year. Both are slow as $h!t. I ask you - Is Melky worth 8M compared to having kept Snider at 500K?     I guess they sort of owed him after this: 6 years/$17.5M (2008-13) Though of course, that deal *could* have gone either way. He's such a team player he never bitched once about that contract.

    Longoria signed through 2023 but the AAV is actually very reasonable for a guy that good: signed extension with Tampa Bay 11/26/12 6 years/$17.5M (2008-13), plus 2014-16 club options 6 years/$100M (2017-22), plus 2023 club option $1M signing bonus 17:$13M, 18:$13.5M, 19:$14.5M, 20:$15M, 21:$18.5M, 22:$19.5M, 23:$13M club option ($5M buyout) 2023 option may increase $5M to $18M based on 2022 awards (rank in MVP vote, Gold Glove at third base, Silver Slugger or All-Star) $11M in salary deferred without interest ($1.5M each in 2017-18 and $2M each in 2019-22), reducing present-day value for 2013-22 to $131,044,173 according to MLBPA calculation
