  1. Temporal lobotomy
  2. I don't see that helping his command. That's the problem, not his arm strength or velocity.
  3. I don't think he had a bunch of contending teams lining up to sign him.
  4. Padres got anything we want??
  5. Cool, thanks. I'd only seen the lines on two hitless games.
  6. Does he have a hit on this rehab assignment yet?!?!
  7. Redbull at 5 AM? Probably not... Especially for the poor guy sitting next to him on the bus.
  8. We need to go at least 4/6 in to the all star break. That would put them back at .500. I wish they could have gotten to 5 games over by then but no such luck. Every little advantage helps. We will probably get Lawrie and Melky back right after the break. That deepens the lineup substantially (I think Lawrie comes back hitting better). *IF* we can get some quality starts out of Dickey and Johson they can go on a good run. If they continue to pitch poorly it's going to be unbearable to watch them sink in the second half.
  9. I can sooo picture Kawasaki doing that somehow...
  10. WTH??? That's hilarious!
  11. Yankees and Orioles losing - good Tampa winning - bad
  12. Would make an awesome World Series
  13. Hahahaha, oops Sorry guys. Tampa vs Minnesota. Missed that somehow.
  14. Edit: Tampa DOES NOT have the day off
  15. 10:10 PM ETSeries: Game 1 of 4 Red Sox (54-36, 23-20 away) vs Mariners (39-49, 21-22 home) Safeco Field, Seattle, Washington Starting Pitchers Boston: Lester (8-4, 4.41 ERA) Seattle: Hernandez (8-4, 2.69 ERA) ESPN writeup: After the Seattle Mariners' successful road trip, Felix Hernandez will try to help his club start posting better results at home. He'll be opposed by Jon Lester, who will attempt to end the Boston Red Sox's recent road woes by adding to his dominance over the Mariners on Monday night. Seattle (39-49) went 4-2 in visits to Texas and Cincinnati, completing the trek with a 3-1 victory over the Reds on Sunday. The Mariners never trailed after Nick Franklin's second home run in three-game series in the first inning. "It's a real good trip for us," manager Eric Wedge told the team's official website. "I think we would have liked to have won one more, but you don't get greedy this time of year. You work hard to win series. Our guys fought hard and played pretty good baseball." Seattle hasn't performed as well lately at home, dropping six of nine, but having its ace on the mound could help. Hernandez (8-4, 2.69 ERA) has won his last three decisions, though he hasn't received one in his past three outings. He's given up two runs in seven innings each of his last two starts while totaling 18 strikeouts, but received two runs of support in both contests. He's coming off a 4-2 win over the Rangers on Wednesday. Hernandez was superb in his most recent matchup with the Red Sox on June 28, 2012, tossing a five-hitter and matching a career high with 13 strikeouts in a 1-0 home victory.
  16. 7:05 PM ETSeries: Game 1 of 4 Royals (41-44, 19-22 away) vs Yankees (48-40, 25-19 home) Yankee Stadium, New York, NY Starting Pitchers Kansas City: Guthrie (7-6, 4.29 ERA) New York: Hughes (4-7, 4.55 ERA) ESPN Writeup: Following a rough end to their longest winning streak of the season, the New York Yankees are hoping Phil Hughes can continue his recent success and get them back on track. The Yankees will try for their seventh win in eight games overall and sixth in a row against the Kansas City Royals on Monday night in the Bronx. New York (48-40) had its six-game run snapped in stunning fashion Sunday, as Adam Jones hit a two-run homer off Mariano Rivera in the ninth inning of Baltimore's 2-1 victory. It was Rivera's second blown save in 31 opportunities. "Whenever it happens you're kind of shocked, that's how good (Rivera) is," manager Joe Girardi said. Rivera is looking to reach 30 saves for the 15th time, which would break a tie with Trevor Hoffman for the major league record. Hughes (4-7, 4.55 ERA) could give him the opportunity to achieve the milestone in this game, given how he's pitched in his last two starts. The right-hander has yielded three runs in 15 innings while going 1-1 in those games. He allowed one run over seven innings to snap a three-start losing streak with a 7-3 victory at Minnesota on Tuesday. "You want to keep that ball rolling," Hughes said. "Hopefully it's the start of a good stretch I can roll off here." He'll have to pitch better at Yankee Stadium, where he's lost four straight starts with 9.00 ERA.
  17. Day off for Jays. Scoreboard watching: 7:05 PM ETSeries: Game 1 of 4 Rangers (51-37, 24-18 away) vs Orioles (49-40, 25-17 home) Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Baltimore, Maryland Starting Pitchers Texas: Holland (6-4, 3.13 ERA) Baltimore: Feldman (0-0, 3.00 ERA) ESPN Writeup: It's hard to imagine where the Baltimore Orioles would be without Chris Davis. Manager Buck Showalter's team will be counting on another former Texas Ranger the rest of the way, too. Scott Feldman gets the ball as the Orioles open a four-game set Monday night against the visiting Rangers, who try to avenge a loss in last year's wild-card game. Acquired from Texas (51-37) in July 2011, Davis leads the majors with 33 homers and ranks second with 85 RBIs -- matching his totals from all of last season. The Orioles (49-40) are also expecting to get a boost from Feldman (0-0, 3.00 ERA), who was acquired from the Chicago Cubs in a four-player deal last week. In his first start since the trade, Feldman allowed two runs in six innings but didn't receive a decision in Wednesday's 4-2 road win over the White Sox. "That's Scott," Showalter told MLB's official website. "You could see in his eyes that he got a little confident as the game went on. He's got a lot of things -- catcher catching a guy for the first time, he's got a pair of pants he's never had on. It didn't look like they fit too well. Had a brand new pair of shoes that probably hurt his feet a little bit. I thought he handled all the adjustments in his life well, but Scotty's been down this road before."
  18. Yet somehow they keep winning just enough games to stay in contention. It's maddening.
  19. I think there's enough money and resolve for the Blue Jays to be a contender next year. Heck, if we could have won 5-6 more games in April I'd say we have a good shot this year with a solid trade deadline move and reinforcements coming.
  20. Padres appear to have signed Renfroe: Padres To Sign First-Rounder Hunter Renfroe by Mark Polishuk, Jul 8 at 4:57 PM CST The Padres are close to signing first-round draft pick Hunter Renfroe, as MLB.com's Corey Brock reports (via Twitter) that the Mississippi State outfielder is in San Diego today to take his physical. Once the physical is passed and the deal is signed, Renfroe will report to the Padres' short-season A ball affiliate later this week. Renfroe is advised by McKinnis Sports Management. No terms of the deal are known, though the 13th overall pick carries an assigned slot value of $2.678MM. The Padres have agreed to terms with the rest of their picks from the first 10 rounds and are roughly $83K under their assigned draft pool budget, so it's possible this extra money could be used to give Renfroe a slightly-above slot deal. (Tip of the cap to Baseball America for the previous two links.) Renfroe, 21, was originally a 31st-round pick for the Red Sox in the 2010 draft but he instead chose to attend Mississippi State and ended up improving his draft stock considerably. Baseball America ranked Renfroe as the 11th-best prospect of the 2013 draft class, while ESPN's Keith Law ranked him 12th and MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo ranked him 28th. Renfroe projects as a right fielder due to his strong throwing arm and plus speed. The right-handed hatter has "outstanding raw power" according to MLB.com's scouting report and has "progressed tremendously at the plate" in college, though "there's still some swing and miss to his game." Once Renfroe's deal is finalized, he will be the 29th of the 33 first-round picks from the 2013 draft to sign contracts.
  21. Not that simple. Spend more money yes, maybe. But the team has to remain profitable or his boss/the board of directors at Rogers is not happy.
  22. This works great:
