  1. Playing the Twins won't help
  2. Agree with all this AA plays his hand close to his chest, but like you say, when he actually says something he does it. I see him either extending JJ or nabbing someone else of similar upside And yes, I honestly do think he's going to jettison Arencibia
  3. Re Ruiz @ MLBTR: By Steve Adams [september 6 at 10:58am CST] Catching figures to be a major priority for the Phillies this season with Carlos Ruiz eligible for free agency and top catching prospect Tommy Joseph having endured a lost season as a result of concussion issues. However, Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com provides an in-depth look at the Phils' catching depth beyond Joseph, noting that Cameron Rupp has already reached the Majors. Phillies director of player development Joe Jordan tells Salisbury that he's also very excited about 2013 second-rounder Andrew Knapp, and a rival scout familiar with the Phillies' system was particularly enthusiastic about Dominican prospect Deivi Grullon. Here's more on Ruiz and the Phillies... Ruiz would like to return to Philadelphia, writes Salisbury in a separate piece, and the organization has taken note of his recent surge at the plate, with GM Ruben Amaro Jr. stating that Ruiz looks far more relaxed. Pitching coach Rich Dubee, who knows Ruiz quite well, feels that Ruiz is best limited to 100 games behind the plate at this point in his career, however.
  4. I've made up my mind I want to: Sign Choo to play LF Buy out Adam Lind Play Melky mostly at DH and spot starts in OF if needed Let Rajai walk (hurts a bit cause I like him) Keep Gose up as 4th OF and pinch runner Trade Arencibia, Santos or Janssen and Stroman for a decent SP with a good health history and at least 2-3 years of control Sign Josh Johnson for 1 year 5.5M Extend Rasmus 4 years 32M plus an option year Sign McCann or Ruiz Use Goins and Izturis for 2B I haven't figured out the final cost on the above additions and subtractions. Crazy or not crazy?
  5. Bump
  6. ICYMI: The Astros claimed Eric Thames off waivers from the Orioles
  7. Top 3 free agent starters per MLBTR: Matt Garza. Garza, 29, moves up a spot on the list. He's posted a 3.09 ERA in 14 starts this year, and has averaged over seven innings per start since the Cubs let him loose in late May following a long layoff for injuries. But the main reason he gains a spot is the July 22nd trade to the Rangers, establishing him as the best available free agent who is not eligible for a qualifying offer. There's real value in that. Hiroki Kuroda. With a 2.38 ERA, Kuroda ranks second in the American League behind Felix Hernandez. The 38-year-old is unlikely to maintain a .255 batting average on balls in play moving forward, but his excellence cannot be denied. Ervin Santana. Santana has positioned himself for the second-largest free agent contract given to a starting pitcher. Unlike Garza, however, Santana is likely to require draft pick compensation if he reaches the open market. The 30-year-old sports a 2.97 ERA in 151 1/3 innings, which is partially backed up by the best strikeout and walk rates since his stellar '08 campaign. One major change since then: Santana has a career-best 47.4% groundball rate.
  8. Says they will be looking to add a starter via trade or free agency Seems keen on Goins and Lawrie Says they will decide on Josh Johnson by mid October Not asked about catcher. Probably relieved that they didn't ask him but lame...
  9. LOL. Hahaha.
  10. Link to interview: http://pmd.fan590.com/audio_on_demand-3/Alex-Anthopoulos-with-Greg-Brady-and-Jim-Lang-bl-20130905-Interview.mp3
  11. In interview AA says he called Ricky and talked to him for an hour. Asked him if he wanted to be called up or shut down for the season. Hmmm. Odd. Anyhow, says Ricky has a "clean slate" going in to 2014.
  12. That sounds more reasonable in terms of a quote from AA And I agree with your comment. As long as we have jettisoned Boni and JPA it will be better.
  13. Fixed that for you
  14. I'm picking Peyton Manning for tonight
  15. Yep I'm 100% for Barry being in the Hall of Fame. It's a travesty if he's not in there.
  16. Yep, only once, 2004 Just looked it up out of curiosity Bonds 2004 - 45 HR, 41 K, 232 BB (that's not a typo, 232 walks) and an OPS of 1.422 Oh, and a .609 OBP FFS I'm surprised he even managed to hit 45 HR that year - that's one of the seasons that essentially no one would pitch to him
  17. That really, really is. Especially for a guy who can hit 40 home runs.
  18. Top 10 hitter in the game, no doubt.
  19. Yep He is unquestionably our best hitter now. Probably has been for at least a year, maybe more.

  21. I wonder what Rob Ford had to say at the Argos game on Tuesday? Mmmm. Not much I guess. Just looks drunk, stoned, and happy to be surrounded by hot young women.
  22. Wilner: "That's what happens when you don't have Brett Lawrie playing third base"
  23. Batting .206 now Worse than Randall Delgado
