  1. I thought of you when I read the news. They're suggesting infield/bench coach.
  2. Let me be the first to say that the thought of paying JP Arencibia 2.8 million dollars next year makes me sick Trade or non-tender please
  3. I love these articles on MLBTR - Matt Swartz has developed a very accurate model that MLBTR uses to project arbitration salaries, as explained in this series of posts. We've heard from many MLB teams and agencies that reference the projections in their work. The Blue Jays are next in our series. Estimated service time is in parentheses, and estimated 2014 salary follows. Colby Rasmus (5.000): $6.5MM With big-time power and a solid .276 batting average, Rasmus finally showed the star potential that compelled the Blue Jays to trade for him in 2011, though an oblique strain knocked him out for a month. His career-worst strikeout 29.5% rate portends a return to his low average days, but Rasmus will remain a major asset in center field. 2014 will be his contract year, and he won't turn 28 until August. With free agency so close, it will be difficult to extend Rasmus for less than B.J. Upton money. J.P. Arencibia (3.059): $2.8MM Arencibia continued to hit home runs, many of them in April. However, his .227 on-base percentage was the worst for a player with at least 400 plate appearances since Rob Picciolo's .218 mark as a rookie shortstop for the A's in 1977. FanGraphs suggests Arencibia was below replacement level overall this year, but it still seems someone would pick him up via trade prior to the December 2nd non-tender deadline. Esmil Rogers (3.135): $1MM Rogers moved into the Jays' rotation in June, posting a 4.89 ERA in 20 starts. The hard-throwing 28-year-old righty is cheap enough to retain as a swingman. Brett Cecil (3.152): $900K In his first full season in the bullpen, Cecil posted a 2.82 ERA in 60 2/3 innings and made the All-Star team. His season ended a little early with an elbow injury. The Jays have been willing to do small multiyear deals with players like this in the past, so if the injury is minor that could be possible with Cecil. Assuming Rasmus, Arencibia, Rogers, and Cecil are tendered contracts, the Blue Jays are looking at an estimated $11.2MM for four arbitration eligible players.
  4. Sveum hired by Kansas City Role to be determined
  5. Yeah I just searched. I guess it was from a home run derby of some kind when he was 16. I had thought it was from a futures game or something. Hit it over 500 feet. Only crappy videos on YouTube that do a poor job of showing it. But obviously cause it wasn't a pro TV crew or anything. But dayum, is there anyone with more raw/natural power than that guy? 16 years old hitting balls 500 feet. That's sick.
  6. It's hard to make yourself worth -2 WAR isn't it...
  7. Second most on the team for JP!
  8. Dickey had a few starts pushed back a day IIRC but no DL time
  9. I've never seen Bryce Harper's home run from 3 years ago - supposedly the longest one ever hit at Tropicana field. I wonder if that's available in the mILB archives somewhere.
  10. Possibly. Cause he was grinding through his "injury".
  11. Check out the options for the fan voted minor league plays of the year. Anthony Gose's steal of home is one of the finalists. http://www.milb.com/news/awards/y2013/index.jsp?category=play
  12. This is just... ick...
  13. And predicting it is very much like predicting the stock market, though in sports I guess you can (usually) bank on at least mild age related decline. But who goes from good year to bad or vice versa any given year? Anyone's guess.
  14. And with Yunel it's been more than that. Atlanta sold low on him too because of laziness, Jays for this episode. That's a huge red flag for future teams and those reputations can really stick with you. But he finally seems to have maybe smartened up and playing harder in Tampa. Too bad for us.
  15. Oh I hadn't even see the play. Didn't know you meant that specifically. Great player, terrible game. It happens.
  16. Everyone else feel like that's the game right there??
  17. Dammit Maddon thinks deeply on these things doesn't he?
  18. Yep. Since 2001.
  19. I can't wait for some news. There is just nothing to discuss with this team right now.
  20. I figured We're being picky
  21. I have pet peeves at both extremes: A) Baseball broadcasters, writers and forum posters who think W-L records are the best measure of a pitcher's performance Baseball broadcasters, writers and forum posters who think a pitchers' W-L record has nothing whatsoever to do with their performance Obviously, neither is true (N.B.: I am not suggesting that any posters in this thread believe A or B. Just felt like pointing it out)
