  1. I think playing Ortiz at first is the right thing to do Wilner (Ug) said it well the other day - "You can't lose the World Series with David Ortiz sitting on the bench" I agree. He's your age-defying playoff hitting legend. And it's first base. And he's not exactly replacing a gold glover. A tougher decision would be playing Napoli at third. THAT could have consequences but he's apparently thinking about it
  2. Amaro Jr just HAD to have Jonathan Papplebon tho...

  4. Yep. Though if Shelby Miller had been taken by any of the 18 teams ahead of them they were going to draft Trout. Of course, almost every team in baseball except the Angels have a similar tragic story about that year. And Miller looks excellent.
  5. Yeah. It's not just about drafting. It sounds like they have a great program and great success at developing players and finding roles for them. This may be what the Blue Jays lack the most.
  6. TBH, it's clear there was some luck involved in that draft. But the organization obvously knows what they're doing. Carpenter in the 13th round, and Rosenthal in the 21st?!?! Dammmm.
  7. About 1/3 of the way through it Good read so far. Long. Mostly about their 2009 draft. Interesteing for those who want to know about behind the scenes in the draft room of team who seems to be very good at it http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/mlb/news/20131025/cardinals-2009-draft-carpenter-miller-rosenthal/?sct=mlb_t11_a2
  8. Yep. We need a good old style AA good value acquisition. Lynn would be a good one.
  9. I think we all expected it, but now official that Farrell will start Ortiz at 1B in St. Louis. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/bos/david-ortiz-breaks-out-glove-for-game-3-but-sox-lose-mike-napoli?ymd=20131025&content_id=63355528&vkey=news_bos&partnerId=ed-7697161-616246303
  10. This Red Sox team just keeps on winning no matter what Farrell does, smart or dumb. It's maddening.
  11. A year ago we wanted to keep Gose at all costs. Now? Well...
  12. And it's even more complicated than that. The medium term painfulness of the Dickey trade also depends on what happens with other players too. If Aaron Sanchez tanks it makes losing Syndrrgaard way more painful. Cause I expect the Mets would have been happy with either. They may have even asked for Sanchez first. The loss of D'Arnaud seems painful now, but who knows with him. And there's a possible silver lining. AA might acquire Ruiz or Ramos this off season. Would he have done that if D'Arnaud was in the system? Maybe not. And what if D'Arnaud turns out to be no better than JP Arencibia? That's very possible. Anyone who scoffs at that doesn't remember how big of a prospect JP was 3 years ago. Or doesn't appreciate how uncertain these prospects are. Bottom line? Gimme a couple more years before I decide how "bad" the Dickey trade was. Would I undo it right now if I could? Yes. But let's see what happens.
  13. You always have to wait a few years to see how well a trade worked out, you're right. And yeah I'd love to see dickey be killer next year.
  14. I'm being too kind We should all wish he'd declined
  15. I think RA is a great guy and all but... Does anyone else kinda sorta wish he'd declined?
  16. Worst thread title ever?
  17. The other Waka Waka Waka
  18. Good question. Didn't know he ever was.
  19. Nationals rumored to be hiring Matt Williams for manager See ya Dbags
  20. I'm glad the Jays aren't owned by Blackberry
  21. Yeah, that too for sure Their recent draftee success has been incredible
  22. Letting Albert Pujols go the Angels has to be the best non-signing in the history of Major League Baseball.
