    Sadly, it's a weak year for free agent starters.

    My point is, they cheap out (trade for Hanigan, play goins at 2B, sign a third tier ASAP to a minor league contract) they're doomed. He needs to buy a 5 win upgrade somewhere. It could be catcher (McCann), 2B (Cano) or SP (not sure who qualifies there but let's say Tanaka or Garza are most likely to provide extra wins).

    A) Sign Tanaka or Garza, sign Ruiz or Pierz and roll the dice at 2B Sign Cano and Jiminez, trade for a C C) Sign McCann and a decent C, trade for league average 2B

He doesn't have the means to fix this team any other way. Tanaka Garza Cano McCann Then he can fill a second hole by trade. But without landing one of the impact FA players I just don't think anything else will be enough. If he doesn't, either: The team won't be good enough We leave too much to chance in terms of the starting rotation We destroy what's left of the farm Agree or disagree?? How desperate is AA? Will Rogers let him increase payroll to 160-170 to mad out the return on what they've already invested and really go for it?

    You just have to assume such players are going to turn in to draft picks if you trade for them or already have them.

    Yep. Same goes for Scherzer. No one is going to trade a top 20 prospect for 1 year of him at 13-14M to have him walk to the highest bidder next December.

    Accidentally clicked on my bookmark for the old board. Laughed out Lind at the crap threads and posters who started them. Check out the first 5 or so titles. I advice not going to read them cause... Well just because they're complete crap.

    Sucks. The prospect of signing a 25 year old pitcher who projects as probably a solid #2 starter, for just money, no prospects and no draft pick loss is certainly appealing to this team right now.

    Yeah this thing is just all over the place. And should have been finalized before the WS and Japanese championship were done.

    I'd bet he has 5-6 teams willing to offer 1 year around 6-8M, none offering 2 years at double that, and he just picks where he wants to play.

    I *think* I agree Def extend him if you can. If the contract is reasonable it makes him all the more tradable later anyhow if plans change.

    I think so too Rasmus + Janssen + a farm system arm other than Sanchez or Stroman gets you something good I would think
