  1. Totally irrelevant to anything but I've been laughing on and off for 10 minutes about it so thought I'd share. KLaw cracks me up sometimes.

  3. He kept that up after they moved to Washington too: http://dcbb.blogspot.ca/2006/04/frank-napping.html
  4. I have a sinking feeling about this season all over again...

  6. Keith Law today: - Johnny (Toronto) Do you agree with the Blue Jays stance of limiting free-agent pitchers to a 5 year deal? I understand it as a general guideline, but the Jays are using it as a hard and fast rule, specifically in regards to Tanaka. Could it be an excuse from ownership to not spend money? " Klaw (1:06 PM) I agree with it. But it will mean they won't get any top-tier starter free agents.
  7. This is exactly what we have all feared to be true It's also the reason that I cut AA more slack than most on here do As a fan I care more about the team than any one person. I think AA is a mostly good GM who has A) made some good moves made a few bad moves on his own C) been forced to make or not make moves that might have worked out better D) been the victim of some bad luck and E) up against barriers with free agents that he can't do much about right now (at least until/if this team gets a reputation as a winner agian)
  8. I'll admit it would be fun cheering for a team with a "win at any cost" attitude, though it might get boring after a while. LOL
  9. This is totally true But I still want to see a smart disadvantaged team like Oakland win a world series. But the way MLB is set up makes the odds very long for them.
  10. Hahaha. I know what you mean.
  11. Yeah they're the Yankees and usually easy to hate but now... They dissed Russell Martin and let him walk to save money then signed McCann (a notorious SOB) for 3X the money Martin got Signed Tanaka, putting him in the AL East. This is likely a 6 win swing vs Blue Jays compared to us signing him (though I recocnize that was not happening) Possibly colluded with MLB to make sure they didn't have to pay ARod this year and try repeatedly to get out of the contract that THEY signed willingly Spend money like crazy when they don't make the playoffs. I just heard this on ESPN radio. The Yankees have missed the post season twice in the last 6 years, 2008 and 2013. In the two off seasons after those two years they have spent 912 million dollars on free agents. An obscene amount of money that maybe two teams in MLB could spend. Yuck. Have a s***** farm system but stay afloat by buying most of the top free agents. Derek Jester No mo Mo to at least root for Any more?
  12. Figgins to Dodgers http://dlvr.it/4m35Hd
  13. MLBTR: The Cubs were the runner-up in the Tanaka sweepstakes, according to David Kaplan of CSN Chicago (Twitter link). Ultimately, the fact that they're not ready to win in 2014 ended their chances, he elaborates. Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports tweets that the Yankees separated themselves, but not by a wide margin. The Dodgers, Cubs, White Sox, Astros and Diamondbacks were all involved in the end. According to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com, all teams that participated in the second round of bidding had to come in above the six-year, $120MM level. Bruce Levine of 670thescore.com reports that the seventh guaranteed year is what separated the Yankees from the rest of the pack (on Twitter). According to Kaplan (via Twitter), other factors "trumped the possibility of more money," including the influence of Ichiro Suzuki and Hiroki Kuroda and the attractiveness of playing for the game's highest-profile franchise. The Dodgers wanted Tanaka, but drew a financial line, reports Steve Dilbeck of the Los Angeles Times. As Dilbeck explains, the team does have financial limitations that it intends to abide by. "We went as far as we thought we could go," said GM Ned Colletti.
  14. With a picture John Farrell doing AA from behind?
  15. http://thenypost.files.wordpress.com/2014/01/hal1.jpg?w=720&h=480&crop=1 Hal Steinbrenner decided winning games trumped saving money, and authorized his baseball people to forget the Yankees’ $189 million goal for the 2014 season and spend almost that much to land Masahiro Tanaka. “I have been saying for well over a year now that it makes sense to meet [the $189 million threshold], but not at the expense of a championship-caliber team,” Steinbrenner told The Post by phone. “I felt we needed another starter. We were not where we needed to be, in my opinion. So this should not be a surprise because [Tanaka] was the best free-agent pitcher available. He is one of the greatest players Japan has ever produced. He is tough. He has thrived under pressure. He will fit in well to New York.” The Yankees found out shortly after midnight as Tuesday turned to Wednesday that they had won the Tanaka sweepstakes with a winning bid of seven years at $155 million plus the $20 million posting fee that will go to Tanaka’s previous team in Japan, the Rakuten Golden Eagles.
  16. f*** this so hard f***!!!
  17. Not sure if they've dropped out or (I think more likely) Tanaka's agent told them they're out of consideration
