  1. That's correct. He basically exceeded his numbers in the minors (some of which was inflated by a .392 babip in Vegas) at the major league level on both offense and defense. I expect the league to adapt to him, as well as his numbers across the board to regress. Most players who come onto the major league stage with the kind of impact Gomes did seem to struggle the next year a bit. I'd still take him back in a heartbeat over anyone we have.
  2. I highly doubt either come close to that. I would be surprised if Gomes is over 2 WAR and D'Arnaud breaks 1.5 WAR. Have to wait and see though, just my opinion.
  3. People aren't looking to cherry pick stats to suit their vision (at least not serious people). All of this work that JFaS and others are doing help us to better understand the numbers. I do however think that in general we are too fast to attempt to apply them without considering where they may fail.
  4. I'd say Rasmussen may replace Cecil, or is at least insurance if we decide to.
  5. I actually like this trade, although I'm not sure Kratz has any options left which could make things interesting. Rasmussen looks like an ideal candidate to move into a relief role if we trade some other guys. Good slider, can't maintain velocity past a few innings.
  6. It's actually kind of surprising, but Ellsbury only has 4 home runs in 33 games in new yankee stadium.
  7. I think the Yankees overpaid, but he should produce for them at least for the first few years (minus one or two on the dl).
  8. If we hadn't traded for Happ we would have likely had to trade for someone else. We had a LOT of players that would have had to be added to the 40 man (same with the trades last off-season). We can complain about a few of the players who were included or who we got back, but we had to trade a good volume of prospects one way or another. Honestly, when everything is considered, I'm really only upset about losing Syndergaard. I wanted to keep Gomes as bench depth since he could also cover 3rd, but at the time like most others I didn't view it as a massive issue. His breakout surprised pretty much everyone. I'm not high on d'Arnaud at all.
  9. I like that it's the Yankees giving him that deal (although he's a perfect fit for that park).
  10. The Yankees must have given up on getting under the cap, unless they know A-Rod has no chance of playing next year.
  11. Wow, I didn't realize just how little money the Mariners have tied up this year right now. King Felix is taking up like 2/3 of their total team salary.
  12. I'll go with Daniel Hudson or John Axford ... but my crystal ball sucks
  13. Not enough! We're giving away a top 10 catcher who at the moment is free! We have to be getting Zunino too!
  14. Dombrowski must be getting kickbacks from Boras or something. You'd think he'd learn his lesson after Prince.
  15. so ... what's the over/under on how many days (past the May deadline) until the Marlins move him to some team that loses their catcher?
  16. Sit 10 guys down in the bar, get them plastered, and tell them to each make a trade in their fantasy league and the results would make more sense than half of what we've seen and heard the last 2 days...
  17. That would be an epic troll job
  18. Well the d-backs did say the ptbnl was the key for them to pull the trigger so I doubt it's a scrub, but all the same...
  19. I love that AA is starting to break his cone of silence a little bit. I'd love for us to get Anderson if the price is cheap, but he doesn't fit with what AA has said all along to be looking for.
  20. If you consider the weighted ball programs, it might help strengthen the shoulder and prevent injury for all we know.
  21. Interesting. BB seems to be on the reliever kick right now.
  22. Don't get me wrong, I think Fister is underrated by quite a bit, and if you factor in the difference in cost to acquire each of them I would probably choose Fister. There is no way I would even think about doing so all things being equal though.
  23. That could free up someone like Franklin maybe!
  24. I don't agree with this at all. Imo if your new stat is suggesting this, you need to take another look at the stat.
  25. Florida tax rate probably doesn't hurt either.
