  1. I'd say they're both about equal, with a nod to McGowan on stuff and Anderson on feel.
  2. I know that, like I said in Verlander's no hitter I'm sure I remember seeing some 101's and 102's, which is why I was surprised not to see him on the list.
  3. Without looking it up, it seems weird that Verlander isn't on that list. In that no hitter he threw against us, every fastball in the 9th I think was over 100, and I thought there was a few 101's and 102's.
  4. I think Maholm is extremely underrated (someone should get great value out of him), but with that said I agree with others in that he's not the kind of guy we need right now.
  5. I think it depends what you can move him for. If it's a decent player with several years of control, then absolutely. If not, might be better to keep him and get the pick.
  6. Ah, so it does. I totally missed it. The link should be made more obvious. Make the entire sentence the link.
  7. Poor Hentgen. Gets the BP job, has to back out after a single year because of his daughter's illness. That finally stabilizes and he returns to the BP job, then has to back out the next year because of his dad being ill. Poor guy. I may as well be the first to say it, but why the hell wasn't Halladay named the BP coach (unless he wants some time off or wants to be in the front office)?
  8. Apparently that total is not linear, so they start out only getting about 60 or 70M / year and it gradually increases. Still a big increase over their current deal (although doesn't kick in for another year or two). BTW, these 25 year deals seem like a really really bad idea to me, although at least Philly gets a stake in the revenue above the fixed amount per year.
  9. Cool! You should add a link to the google docs spreadsheet in the BB article also.
  10. I wonder what the other move would be that this would set up, since we'd have 3 1B/DH (unless we moved EE back to 3rd and Lawrie to second, which I hope we don't do).
  11. I don't think we will. I believe we will add one #3 or better starter, but I don't know whether that will come via trade or FA.
  12. Yeah, I noticed that too. Still never hurts to see how others are approaching a problem though, which can often spark other ideas.
  13. I don't think it's so much a 200+ inning guy as guys we can be fairly certain will make the majority of their starts. Morrow is a complete unknown in that regard, as are the depth guys we have.
  14. People might find this kind of interesting http://www.thegiantscove.com/2014-articles/january/major-league-baseball-line-ups-the-mobius-theory.html
  15. Out of curiosity, why did you decide to stack pitching rather than hitting (not that your bats aren't pretty damn good also, just not quite the level of your pitching)
  16. Seems like a strong deal for both sides assuming it fills a need for both. I don't have concerns about Price, but Freeman just had a huge season for a 23 year old.
  17. I don't think he took one he knew wouldn't sign as much as he took one that he felt would have huge upside if he DID sign, with the thought that it didn't really matter if he didn't.
  18. His contract demands were stupid in the first place. If we could get him at around 10M though, he and Melky could split time in the outfield and DH and we could move Lind (maybe Seattle wants another 1B lol). Cruz murders lefties and is playable vs righties, so that would eliminate the platoon partner we still need for Lind.

It's a shame that countries can't qualify two teams considering the depth we have.
  20. In all reality, replacing JJ with Shark and trading for one of Seattle's 2nd baseman probably puts us in exactly the same spot we were in last year before the season started (projection wise), if not a very small amount ahead.
  21. Any team that tries to build a staff with that kind of system deserves to lose. You look to improve your club any way you can. If that means having 5 #3 caliber guys, then so be it. If those 5 guys put up the same WAR as a traditional #1 to #5 staff, you're fine (at least in terms of making the playoffs). It would almost be like a team passing up on Votto in order to get someone like Dunn, Alvarez, or Trumbo because they want the extra home runs in the middle of their order.
  22. I wonder if Happ might be a better comparison for Wood.
  23. I suppose it depends what else you could get for Kinsler's salary and whether you think Liriano will repeat what he managed last year or not (I have my doubts). Still, I have to assume you could turn around and trade Kinsler if you wanted to for more of a return than Norris and Stilson.
