    I think in general you're correct. I don't see how you could account for enough to get meaningful results regarding game calling. The catcherFX data COULD be useful in evaluating framing though, as it might help show whether the pitcher should share credit for the framing results or not (regarding how well they repeatedly hit their target). The other major factors should be relatively easy to account for (umpire familiarity with the pitcher, pitcher stuff, pitcher reputation via previous success and control).

    The lack of a quality bench was one of the biggest issues. We just didn't have the ability to deal with injuries properly, or to deal with the necessary platoons. Fortunately having Mayberry and Valencia could go a long way towards helping that next year. Even more so if Izzy returns and is in superutil role. The pen was unfortunate, but it also wasn't something we really could have addressed differently. The lack of depth was.

    That was a fantastic at-bat by Pompey. I still want us to resign Melky, but Pompey in CF and Gose as the 4th outfielder would be just fine with me.

    Whenever Yahoo lists him on the IR. Who knows when that will be (probably sometime before the rosters are cut down irl).

    I would really hate to face the Oakland / Detroit pitching staffs in the playoffs. Maybe you manage to eek out some wins, but your offense is probably in a slump the rest of the playoffs regardless.

    Yeah, this was about sticking up to help the player. Gibby has to do it.

    Yeah, maybe the dropoff isn't as severe. Also, a lot of the high skill guys don't rely just on speed, which is the thing most likely to decline quickest.

    Yeah, I had Galchenyuk in the queue. Think you nabbed him right before me. It's a bit of a risky strategy, but I think the young hockey players also tend to be safer gambles than baseball players are.

    Part of my thinking was that if I have to rebuild in baseball eventually (not for a few years at least), getting a feel for things with the hockey could be valuable. Also with the later picks and the high draft pick I had, it made a certain amount of sense.

    I made one small mistake in the draft (accidentally selected the wrong guy in a later round). Pretty happy with it otherwise. Now whether my strategy was smart or not remains to be seen in a year or two.

    Cliff Lee might be a good comparison too (of a player with similarish stuff figuring it out late, not that I expect Happ to improve to that degree).

    I don't know about an extension atm, but Happ has a 3.71 xFIP in the second half and 4.01 on the year. That's pretty sweet for a 5th starter.

    He's not THAT bad. Apparently he'll be playing with Zubrus and Elias (who he's friends with). If he stays healthy, I wouldn't be surprised to see him put up 20 goals and 60 points.

    Good job! I wonder why the fonts look so different from the BBDL one? Looks like they're the same chosen font and size. Must be the new google docs compared to the old ones.

    I feel I'm probably ranked pretty appropriately for this year. Of course with my luck, I'll probably over-perform and take myself out of the running for an elite pick.

    I've been getting some inquiries on some of my players. I am willing to trade a goalie (Anderson most likely) and some vets like Markov, Bieksa, Seidenberg, etc. I'd be looking for high end non-established guys in return. To part with a goalie, it would have to be worth my while since it would be a pain in the ass for me to stream backups all year to meet the min.
