Pitchers seem to have such a high bust rate in general that I think I'd rather see us buy pitchers and develop hitters. You can always take wildcard shots later in the draft on pitchers you think you can develop.
I wouldn't mind us claiming him. If we're going to be trading a few relievers potentially, we'll need some arms to replace them.
Plus, with our unsettled closers role, it will be glorious when he picks up his first save with Hurl watching!
Shawn Kelley for Barbato didn't work out very well. Eduardo Nunez for Sulbaran didn't either. He definitely wins more than he loses, although to be fair he's the buyer of established guys more often than the seller, which helps since a lot of prospects bust.
The Canucks appear to be taking the opposite approach. Overpay a bunch of 4th liners. Unless they're trying to nab the top pick for the next few years, they're really screwing over the franchise. If they're intentionally tanking, they're doing a fantastic job.
