  1. They need the help in the pen, and this would accomplish that without adding payroll. It seems to me it fills the biggest need for both teams.
  2. Well, you'd be replacing Giles with Betances, who might not even be a downgrade, and would probably sign with the promise of closing whereas he might not otherwise. You'd be getting Joc who is a 3 WAR outfielder and a plus defender in left/right, and an intriguing bullpen arm that throws upper 90s with a wicked slider.
  3. I wonder if the recent moves might open up trading Giles for a similar service time position player rather than prospects, then signing Betances to close? Maybe something like Giles to the Dodgers for Joc and Chargois?
  4. He's still a good option. He doesn't have ace-level stuff now, but he was on pace for ~4 WAR last year. I think some of his playoff struggles have led to a perception that he sucks now, but that's not the case.
  5. Excellent! Now trade for Price, and we will actually have a pretty legit team next year.
  6. Full credit to Nurse for sticking with the bench too, rather than subbing a bunch of the starters back in when they closed the gap.
  7. If anyone stopped watching, switch back!
  8. Yep. This is where the injuries start to show. Thankfully there's interesting football games on.
  9. You know, if we're willing to spend a bit without sacrificing prospect capital, signing Edwin and Ryu and trading for Price would give us a pretty decent looking team.
  10. Lol Tampa. That's pretty much the worst possible start you can have.
  11. Would it interest you to know that the east and west have identical records against each other so far this year? The west is running up their records against GS, etc too. I do agree with you about one conference, for basketball and baseball.
  12. That got ... uncomfortable.
  13. I know Washington sucks, but that's a great first quarter!
  14. Lol, so this is what happens when you give NBA players a day off: https://www.cbc.ca/sports/raptors-kyle-lowry-matt-thomas-debut-as-cannon-dolls-in-the-nutcracker-1.5403808
  15. True, but some of it is denominated in US Dollars and some of it is in Mexican Pesos.
  16. Didn't Cespedes do something that was directly forbidden in his contract? That seems a lot more defensible than a team not giving you medical help, so you sought it out on your own.
  17. Obviously I meant in terms of prospects, not contract.
  18. Over the last four years, among qualified relievers, he's 11th in WAR and 9th in xFIP. I don't think 12M/year is reckless for his age 29 through 33 years, as long as the arm is fine. Similar guys surrounding him like Chapman (okay, Chapman is better), Miller, Kimbrel, Jansen, Britton are all making more than that per year. We're going to need a good closer for at least three of those years anyway, hopefully four, so why not get one at a fair price who wants to be here for those years?
  19. Ouch. That hurts. We really need FVV back!
  20. I think there's the legitimate question of whether teams will offer anything decent for Giles. Most teams just aren't parting with high end prospects for rentals anymore. I think I'd be tempted to offer Giles something like 5/60 (assuming there's no issues in his medicals). Keep him around for when it matters. In an era of volatile relievers, he's been very good and very consistent.
  21. The Yankees should get penalized 50% extra just for attempting that bs.
  22. Atlanta made a substitution 42 seconds into the game tonight. I don't think I've ever seen a healthy substitution made that quick before.
  23. Not that big a deal as long as he has time to get back into form before the playoffs (provided we don't get hammered with injuries in the mean time).
  24. Yeah. Last time was a partial dislocation I think. It's probably the same thing this time.
  25. The NBA is becoming as bad as soccer for diving and embellishing. They really need to clean it up.
