  1. IMO, buy pitching, develop bats.
  2. I feel like the best thing they could do is just write off the season, and spend the time negotiating a new CBA right now. There's pretty much a 100% chance at least SOME players will come down with COVID while playing, and that's just going to cause a giant mess. Figure out the upcoming labour issues right now so we don't have the possibility of another stoppage in the '21 offseason, which combined with this, would be catastrophic.
  3. I'm guessing if baseball is proposing 50 games, they probably want to start the playoffs at the start of September (maybe even a week or two earlier) and try to get through most of it before a second wave of the virus. I'm just looking at ways of reducing the luck factor in a drastically shortened season. Maybe it's not necessary. Maybe the luck will make it more exciting.
  4. No matter what they do, it's going to be different. If they're using extended rosters, the reliever run will be real anyway. Doubling the games at least helps reduce the luck factor a bit.
  5. What would people's thoughts be on playing two 5 inning games a day for 100 total games?
  6. That's actually pretty clever. I don't understand why people would pay for it, but I'm sure they will.
  7. The NHL and NBA don't think they can start on time because of the extended time required for the playoffs. They could still likely get in all the games. They've done compressed schedules in Olympic years in the past, and could simply run it an extra month into the summer next year. I would assume we'll hear of something similar to MLB happening with the NFL if they have to play in front of empty seats. They aren't going to open contentious talks about it until it becomes an absolute.
  8. Well, let's see here. 1/3 of MLB revenue is ticket sales. MLB is proposing 80 games (I think). So percentage-wise, you should be looking at players receiving 1/3 of their normal, full-season salary. Players have already received some of their 2020 pay in the deal struck before. IMO, the only real issue is the higher scaling percentage for highly-paid players. Players in the lower end are probably getting paid more in the deal.
  9. He's fine as long as he isn't trying to fantasy draft dead people.
  10. I wouldn't put much stock in the defensive projections for someone who played in 33 games at the majors last year, most of which were at a position he had basically never played before.
  11. That would be nice, but Tampa would probably want offers starting with Vladdy/Bichette and Pearson. I'd rather develop some top talent and fill in the holes via FA rather than trade.
  12. Posturing aside, I could actually see a few pitchers deciding not to pitch this year. Some of the free-agents-to-be could be wise not to take the chance of injury this year for a compressed partial season. Bauer (not that he would, especially since he stated he wants to go year-to-year anyway) Arrieta Morton Ray Stroman (also doubt he would) Tanaka Taijaun Walker
  13. I seem to remember reading that the agreement made with the players was contingent on people being in the stands, and the players got part of their salary advanced as part of that deal. It would be negotiated further if there weren't people in the stands. Isn't that what was said? Maybe the MLBPA just isn't telling players what's going on.
  14. I'd much rather see games end in an actual tie after two or three extra innings than runners starting on 2nd in extras and stuff like that.
  15. I believe so. Very smart move too.
  16. Some of our young pitchers would also not have to worry about innings limits.
  17. I'm pretty sure Florida is opening before they even meet the minimums outlined by Trump, let alone what most other world leaders are setting bars for. Aside from that, if no fans are going to be at the games, there's really no reason to play the games in Toronto right now. Make use of our upgraded spring training facility or the Rays/Marlins parks. Cut down on the travel for the players, which should hopefully also reduce the risk to them. The ONLY real benefit to holding the games at RC right now is the roof, which doesn't matter too much outside of the spring/fall. If things go well this summer, the Jays could always switch to RC in the fall. As far as mental health goes for people in Canada, it makes no difference where they're held since they won't be physically attending the games anyway. Definite NO to the CGI fans and crap. Roboumps, yes. Robofans, no.
  18. I'd swap Bautista and Wells in the outfield and Olerud and EE in the infield (or Olerud and Delgado if you're treating util as DH). Aside from that, everything else looks pretty defensible.
  19. I find it exceptionally unlikely they'll be playing in front of fans in many of the parks. I'll be more than happy to watch actual sports on TV. League of Legends just isn't the same.
  20. Clase suspended 80 games. Not clear what will happen if the season is cancelled though.
  21. That's making the VERY big assumption that even empty stadium games will be permitted in Toronto. I don't think that's a given right now.
  22. His command appears to be in midseason form.
  23. From what I've read, Trump basically waived the verification process, which means that companies can create and sell tests without any proof that they actually work. I gather a lot of tests detect the common cold/flu as a positive test along with Coronavirus, which means people who think they're immune might not actually be so. I believe that's why the quick tests have taken longer to be approved here in Canada. They're trying to weed out the crap ones.
