Roark's profile has changed the last few years. His ground ball rate has plummeted (and is continuing to do so). I think someone who puts up an xFIP in the upper 4's is probably what we'll get from him, and that's probably no different from what Shun will provide in the same usage scenario now that he's had a year to adjust to the ball. I think Shun has a little higher upside though, if he can get ahead and start using that splitter as a proper weapon. The ideal scenario would be neither.

Well, that stings if true. Yamaguchi had better find it quick next year I do think we'll see some big improvements from him, I'm just not sure they'll be big enough.

The tags for that article again point to Martino (literally, right at the bottom). I'm not saying he's wrong, just that (as far as I can tell) we only have one single source for all the contract discussion, and one who seems to only have ties to the Mets front office rather than any of Springer's reps. Heck, the article does not state that the Jays offer was 5 years, only the contract total. He's probably correct, but we'd be stupid to assume it.

As far as I remember seeing, Martino is the only one who's mentioned the offer totals for both teams. He may be pulling them out of his ass, or it's also possible the Jays have offered something like 4/115 and he only knew the total and assumed the term.

Hopefully it'll just trigger MLB to finally allow pre-approved substances. If pitchers can't use them, batters shouldn't be allowed to either.

We don't need to spend this offseason just because we can. If the right player can't be had, for whatever reason, there's nothing wrong with holding onto our flexibility for the trade deadline or offseason next year.

Even if we take that, which is not in line with the Cornell (unbiased) review which is based on actual costs of various college fields, when you factor in the initial cost over a recommended 10 year maximum period you get an additional 35K per year in cost for the artificial turf. I doubt the MLB teams will keep it in place for the recommended 10 years either. Regardless, we're talking about cost totals low enough that it isn't going to have any measurable impact on the decisions made by an MLB team.

Is it? It seems the lifespan of turf is only a couple years, and it isn't exactly cheap to replace. I'm pretty sure they have to do something to maintain the base it's on as well, so it's not like they can just set it and forget it.
