  1. I predicted the biggest decline in baseball for Kinsler...I'm betting on replacement level as soon as next year. So I don't have a winner or a loser in this deal. For either team it's just about team success rather than value. Detroit wants a championship. I think they bring back Infante at 3 years $25M and cover their LF/3B options through Castelanos and Infante (not sure which one where).
  2. part of the back room deal with the state of Michigan. His wife was allowed to buy the casino in Detroit in exchange for putting out a good (aka expensive) product to help save the city.
  3. My time is lacking right now but I really want to do some numbers for the players that left our org last year in comparison to their numbers from when they were here. maybe over the holidays
  4. Sano = Pedro Alvarez for me. Bryant will be a monster this year.
  5. Got a few minutes so I decided to compare Minny and the Cubs. The big one Buxton vs. Baez. Not even close for me. Buxton is Trout lite at this point. Baez has unreal power but he's got a lot of issues he'll have to work out. The line drive rate and K's are his biggest concerns. He'll need to hit 40 to keep the average up and he's not going to walk enough to support a .220. Huge Edge Buxton The 3B's Sano vs. Bryant Everything I just wrote about Baez, applies to Sano. Except he might be able to walk enough to carry a low average. I've said since early last year that Bryant will be the best bat from that draft. He K'd at a pretty high rate in his debut but I think he'll work on that. His bat control is too good for that. The top 2 pitchers. Bryant but by much less than Buxton over Baez. Stewart & Meyer vs. Edwards & Johnson For me this is a kid with great stuff and Meyer who has shoulder issues vs. the two best unknown pitching prospects in all of the minors. Heading to AA Edwards (as will Johnson be) has one issue. His stamina keeps his velocity down later in the game. If that develops I'm predicting he's an ace. A righty that lefties can't touch, works his ass off when working at his game Have to leave now....to be continued later.
  6. I really don't think the Cards are all that concerned about RF or RP. They want a SS and a Starter.
  7. Upside it's the Twins for sure. But they have too many that are too far away for me. It's really really good but a lot could go wrong for them still. I look at Pinto sitting in the back part of the top 10 for them (or outside of it) and I think how he'd be top 3 in most orgs. Similar enough Arodys would be top 3 in many still as well.
  8. Keep reminding me if I don't.
  9. Cubs are f***ing stacked right now, considering I think they will make a few more deals they could add some young pitchers and really be set up well. Theo's done well with his start
  10. I heard the Darrell's use the PB burgers to threaten SpeedyGose on close votes, take away his Epi Pen and see if he votes against you.
  11. There is a reason they leave it as "Valuable Player" and let old baseball writers, that don't watch games outside of their home team, vote...it keeps people talking about baseball after the season is over. It's one of MLB's best marketing campaigns.
  12. The main point we deal with in class is that Science is a huge part of sports and the main reason that sports keeps getting bigger, faster and stronger. So how are PED's any different than equipment developments? The side effects of some banned substances are less than the listed side effects of Vitamin C tablets. All really comes down to how people view drugs in a negative way in general. Really only baseball cares about the sanctity of the old records...Usain Bolt is running a full second faster than Jesse Owens and fans just want to see him go even faster.
  13. Probably enough that he sues them. On a related note we are doing PED's in sport sociology right now and it's amazing how many went from being somewhat okay with them (just me at the start of the program) to now when we have all the facts and look at it in a different way (about 50% of the class with mainly just the baseball fans holding out). We actually watched Bigger, Stronger, Faster last class...I love that documentary.
  14. Our team? They are trading him to the Rays
  15. won't go that drastic. As I mentioned above the NCAA tournament is going to non-raised seams for 2015 (which means that while it's not required most or all conferences will adopt it as well). The science behind it is unreal, the drag effect on the ball doesn't happen until in flight for a considerable distance, so it doesn't effect the speed of the ball off the bat (thus not effecting player safety). On average the non-raised seam ball travels 20 feet further (from a machine). The distances are greater when the ball is hit harder (which means we'll see more moon shots). If runs keep heading downwards and it's successful in the NCAA's I can see the MLB jumping on it. Supposedly it won't effect any pitch except for the knuckleball.
  16. Out of all our payroll mess....Lind's $5M is what you comment on. Essentially we've become the Cubs
  17. Next step...seamless (really flat seamed) baseballs. 2018 is my official prediction. Mark it down
  18. rack of lamb and all
  19. Beeston broke code and cost a Boras client a year of college. It was a BS move and Boras will make him pay as long as he's here. As for my photo, I don't hide it ever that I'm a Boras guy, think he's probably one of the smartest guys in the game. I can't say for certain that the Jays would deal for a Boras guy but I do believe that Beeston was in the wrong with Paxton and Boras will never forget it.
  20. Jays don't have issues with a Boras player...it's Boras that rightfully won't deal with the Jays.
  21. Absolutely...but not if you aren't going to strengthen a weakness. As bad as it would be for the Jays it really is 100 times worse for the Phils. You only trade Bautista to rebuild or to continue the all in mentality and trade him to fill a pitching need.
  22. hilarious Dom Brown is clicking favourite on almost every tweet from fans, positive or negative https://twitter.com/dom9brown/favorites
  23. 27 HR's in 140 games, former top 5 prospect...that's exactly the kind of player our retarded GM would pursue. He just needs the right pitching name to come up an he's in.
  24. Can we dream of a Brown, Melky Outfield? If I really believed that the Jays would consider moving Brown to DH at least half the time I wouldn't even think it's horrible if the other piece has some value. Teams could stack lefties against us Lind, Brown, Gose...leaves us very few options. We only hit 44 HR's off lefties this year and 19 of those came from players who likely wouldn't be with the team anymore...if this rumour were to be real
