The internet is not too much different than real life. You associate yourself with people that have similar interests. However, sometimes we make a first impression and don't always get to know what a person is really like. I try not to judge a new poster from their initial posts but their follow-up responses (call it a vetrin move). I've gotten past the assumption that every new poster is a troll from the old board and we know who most of the trolls are now (see above for most). On the other hand with internet filtering we are mostly getting items with similar interests anyway, life is boring without differing viewpoints. So I would love to debate an intelligent person who loves AA, unfortunately few of those still exist.

I have some nice Gary Sanchez video from my Erie trip. I agree he looks really good. -

Jays targetting Jeff Samardzija and/or Ryan Hanigan

Rather than Hanigan how about this... Carlos Perez! Astros are leaving him exposed again to the rule 5 draft, if he gets past the White Sox at number 3 (which I somehow think he won't), should the Jays consider taking him back and playing him as their back up this (sending JPA to the minors). His only redeeming offensive tool is that he's tough to strike out (this is a guy that put up a .673 OPS in the PCL) but he threw out 47% of runners and drew rave reviews about his ability to block during every Oklahoma City game I watched last year. As with all Rule 5 draftees, he would have to stay on the 25 man roster all year or get sent back to his original team (Astros). Let him be Dickey's personal catcher, DFA Thole, send JPA down and pick up a starting catcher. I know Perez makes more sense for teams who are "rebuilding" and have an established catcher but I just think this would make more sense than trying to improve defense through a trade and keeping Thole just because we have Dickey. -
if they didn't vote they'd just lose their vote. This makes way more of a statement.

People really have to stop pretending we gave up nothing in the Marlins deal. Yunel and Henderson Alvarez are producing in the majors and out-produced the three returned last year. Even if you think he won't produce in the majors, Marisnick could be traded right now for an upgrade over half the Jays team. DiSclafani put up a 5.0 K/BB ratio over 130 innings last year. Number of pitchers in the Jays org who pitched 100 innings and had a 4.0 K/BB or higher...just one (Stroman 4.78). Then there is Hech and Nicolino. -

First time since moving to Minnesota that they have gone three seasons in a row winning less than 70 games. A little pride for them and showing improvement with a big time farm coming in might create a little buzz. -

Andrew Stoeten says: 11.27.13 @ 6:36 AM EST REPLY Oh, so you mean that messageboard community isn’t a monolith and there are a few actually intelligent people on there? Shocking. Still deserved/deserves ripping entirely. Also: while it certainly looks impressive, I’m not necessarily whole hog endorsing everything on that site. It’s communicated very well (which might be the most impressive thing, given how hard it can be to do with that stuff), and the work looks very solid, but I can’t say that the conclusions necessarily hold up after a quick reading of it. Great food for thought, at the very least, but probably best to leave the crowing at the door, eh? And what do you even mean by offshoot, really? -

his pitch framing improved last season supposedly. I still believe you see JPA at least 30% of the time. -

It's all really fascinating stuff to me. It probably just takes having one person you coach return from an injury faster, like what happened with Evans and the Jays after Delabar and the weighted ball stuff and suddenly the jobs offers will come in. In the end I just love hearing old scouts and pitchers dismiss any training that's different. I heard a guy pitch his "elite" program to a parent at a tournament I was working at. He guaranteed that their kid would never develop elbow trouble because he doesn't ever let a pitcher throw from more than 60 feet, just to compete against the long toss supporters. Well the Rainiers aren't on my list of MiLB teams I'll be seeing in the next couple years but I'm ever there I'd love to check out your facility. -

Showing your owner's hand will make it much more difficult to tear down and start over. Fans know that Rogers is willing to spend $150M and coming back down to $75M will be a PR nightmare for Rogers (although profits probably won't change). I can see them spending 5 to 10 years in this continual spend but don't contend mode. We can become the Cubs or Mets of the first decade of this Century. Maybe even have a playoff made in that time just like the Cubs and Mets. -

I think Hanigan, if healthy, will have some kind of a recovery with the bat this season. But even if he does get close to the Steamer projection .254/.346/.344 the defense one would figure is on it's decline. It also should be noted that Hanigan isn't going to draw anywhere near the same amount of walks in Toronto, of the 44 walks Steamer projects for him, 10 are intentional. In the AL he gets zero intentional walks. -
Dodgers sign Dan Haren for 1 year, 10 million

I assume that they will be in on a few Minor league deals in case Beckett is dead. Triple AAA rotation isn't horrible with Lee, Magill, Stripling and Reed set to start there. Fife will probably be the major league swing man. I can see them panicking shortly realizing that they can't trust that great starting staff with such young relievers...and make another League type signing. Despite some huge control issues good teams would love to have Garcia, Withrow, Paco and Kenley at the back of their pen. -

Haren would have been a disaster here. He might do okay in LA. He's gone from a GB guy to a pure FB pitcher...yet his HR to FB rates have continued to rise. Tough to be down on anyone who put up that kind of K/BB ratio though. I like him a lot more than last year when everyone wanted to sign him in Toronto. -

That's $13M for the Dodgers as they are 2nd year straight in the luxury tax penalty. -
of note two more ex Jays draft picks have jumped into Simpson's top 50. Joining Beede (#4), Nola (#24), Weaver (#28) are Prigatano (#155) and last year's 11th rounder Heyman (#180)

Got to say that I haven't paid much attention, especially since I went back to school but I just looked it up and Allan Simpson (PG) has him ranked 103 now and he's dropped out of BA's top 50 too. Don't know if Simpson's ranking are premium or not but looks like he updated two weeks ago RK Player POS YR B-T HT WT School Hometown ST Last Drafted Commitment 1 Carlos Rodon LHP JR L-L 6-3 235 North Carolina State Holly Springs NC Brewers '11 (16) 2 Jeff Hoffman RHP JR R-R 6-4 190 East Carolina Latham NY Never drafted 3 Nick Burdi RHP JR R-R 6-3 220 Louisville Downers Grove IL Twins '11 (24) 4 Trea Turner SS JR R-R 6-1 170 North Carolina State Lake Worth FL Pirates '11 (20) 5 Tyler Beede RHP JR R-R 6-4 215 Vanderbilt Auburn MA Blue Jays '11 (1) 6 Tyler Kolek RHP SR R-R 6-5 230 Shepherd Shepherd TX Texas Christian 7 Brandon Finnegan LHP JR L-L 5-11 185 Texas Christian Fort Worth TX Rangers '11 (45) 8 Michael Gettys OF/RHP SR R-R 6-2 205 Gainesville Gainesville GA Georgia 9 Alex Jackson C/OF SR R-R 6-2 215 Rancho Bernardo Escondido CA Oregon 10 Michael Cederoth RHP JR R-R 6-6 210 San Diego State Spring Valley CA Diamondbacks '11 (41) 11 Nicholas Gordon SS/RHP SR L-R 6-2 170 Olympia Windermere FL Florida State 12 Max Pentecost C JR R-R 6-2 190 Kennesaw State Winder GA Rangers '11 (7) 13 Kodi Medeiros LHP SR L-L 6-0 180 Waiakea Hilo HI Pepperdine 14 Derek Fisher OF JR L-R 6-3 210 Virginia Rexmont PA Rangers '11 (6) 15 Michael Conforto OF JR L-R 6-2 215 Oregon State Redmond WA Never drafted 16 Grant Holmes RHP SR L-R 6-2 210 Conway Conway SC Florida 17 Sean Newcomb LHP JR R-L 6-5 245 Hartford Middleboro MA Never drafted 18 Kyle Schwarber C/OF JR L-R 6-0 230 Indiana Middletown OH Never drafted 19 Sean Reid-Foley RHP SR R-R 6-3 210 Sandalwood Jacksonville FL Florida State 20 Luis Ortiz RHP SR R-R 6-3 220 Sanger Sanger CA Fresno State 21 Bradley Zimmer OF JR L-R 6-5 205 San Francisco San Diego CA Cubs '11 (23) 22 Jacob Gatewood SS SR R-R 6-5 190 Clovis Clovis CA Southern California 23 Touki Toussaint RHP SR R-R 6-2 195 Coral Springs Charter Coral Springs FL Miami 24 Aaron Nola RHP JR R-R 6-2 185 Louisiana State Baton Rouge LA Blue Jays '11 (22) 25 Braxton Davidson 1B/OF SR L-L 6-3 215 T.C.
