  1. So despite his injury history he was worth $13.5M and a prospect or two to our FO...but he puts up pretty similar peripherals and he's no longer worth the risk. Essentially the Jays bought high (coming off a non injured season) and stopped believing in him because he gave up way too many HRs in the time he pitched here (and added one more injury to his list). I'm not a JJ fan myself...but the risk was money not injury.
  2. well you appeared to be living in a fantasy world with the Abreu MVP so I was just contributing.
  3. Don't forget your amazing trade for Abreu's MVP successor George Springer.
  4. Honestly though what pitcher probably about to enter free agency wouldn't want to start or close. Long men don't get paid (unless it's in the porn industry). He has to put up Drew Smyly type numbers to get a good contract as a middle reliever...and if he's doing that he'll probably be cracking our rotation anyway. Whereas he can probably get a small 2 or 3 year deal if he manages to put up a 4.25 ERA over 140 innings.
  5. very few (or none probably) insure their short term deals. Also most policies exclude areas that have been injured before.
  6. I realize the semantics of it all. I'm just saying that the Jays replaced Johnson's spot with with guys just as fragile (you can't say that Dusty is any more sturdy than Josh) so the Jays are not Injury Risk adverse. My opinion is that injuries aside, if he put up an ERA similar to his xFIP or projections for this year...he'd probably would have got the QO. I didn't want JJ last year so in no way would I want him this year, but I just find it hard to believe that his ERA wasn't a major factor in their decision.
  7. J.A. Happ lhp 1 year/$5.4M (2014), plus 2015 $6.7M club option He should be happy as hell about the bullpen...if he's effective there the F.O. will probably be stupid enough to pick up the option. Whereas he has little chance of putting up a good enough numbers for an ERA driven F.O. as a starter.
  8. I'm much more of a cold heartless type i guess. I meant drop his ass the first off-season. I have zero time for rehabbing 27 year old relievers who aren't special late inning guys. I would have paid for the TJS and when October 2012 came around I would have shook his hand and said "come see us when you are better, maybe we'll throw you a minor league deal".
  9. Lind's status is still the same...married to woman that looks like a photo negative of himself.
  10. highs of 15 to 20 over the 4 days in Cleveland...if it's raining a little like it's supposed to on Thursday or Friday you might consider holding him back but no reason he shouldn't be playing on the weekend if he's healthy
  11. We currently have a rotation of McGowan, Hutch, Morrow and Dickey and put a lot of stake into Jose Reyes and Bautista but somehow our front office has huge concerns about a 1 year contract because of past health issues????
  12. off to bed up at 3:30 tomorrow. My life is s***...and I have fears that I'm going to have a Caleb Thielbar dream again (long story)
  13. Nooooo! Sorry channeling my inner Grant. Yes this should have been obvious to everyone in baseball from day 1. Instead they use up Gose's last option for Sierra.
  14. I think Goins would have got the HR out of that one.
  15. yeah Sierra on this team isn't hurting us at all. Stupid franchise decisions
  16. Damn Jays are confusing my Mother. She called wanting to know who the number 42 in CF, who looks like Bautista, is
  17. But we can't send Sierra down...he won't clear waivers. We'll miss out on the guaranteed EE/Bautista type breakout.
  18. they try to go Sabr to the absolute minimum at Sportsnet...but the graphics guys won't allow it
  19. Don't get me wrong I'm not going to pretend that I think the Jays should have Chavez and I stated it (I didn't say that, I probably barely cared). But when you look at the numbers in Vegas, it's a 4.25-1 K/BB ratio. I realize that age to league level is different but he put up better numbers in the PCL in 2012 than guys like Shelby Miller, Wily Peralta, Oberholtzer, Petit, Martin Perez, and Tyson Ross. They kept the following pitchers on the 40 when they got rid of Chavez (none of them had options either): Luis Perez Brad Lincoln Chad Beck Juan Abreu Scott Richmond Not to mention they traded for JA Happ
  20. and if Hutch had those same three starts how would this board be reacting? There would be CY talk. I'd also like to add that 14 of his 20 innings were not in Oakland this season and his numbers were horrible in Oakland last year and much better on the road.
  21. sure can't...got to hold those injured relievers who can go on to the 60 day though
  22. sometimes you have to throw a curve out there...my DDL team couldn't hit it though.
