  1. people keep saying that but I don't believe that. Maybe if they win the World Series again I could see it...but if they make the playoffs this year, season tickets will go up a bit for sure. However, it will still take a 2012 type off-season splash to keep increasing sales. This goes to the arguments that is happening above about casuals vs. baseball fans. The Jays need media hype to sell tickets. NOT Sportsnet hype, U.S. hype. Or the opposite, we need to be winning and get no U.S. hype (like the Raptors right now) so they can sell the "we'll show them how great of fans we have" angle. Marketing in Toronto is simple...the issue is that what it takes to market the team probably isn't a good winning model.
  2. Wasn't tax breaks...just that was the way people did business. Over the golf course, over expensive dinners, and over a game. It's just been scaled back so much in the corporate world (really since 2008). Golf courses are feeling the pinch as much or more than anyone.
  3. The OF assist is probably my favourite play in baseball. Still think players should run more often though.
  4. Could have been summed up in a simple sentence of "Seems to be a systemic issue and there is no quick turn around outside of a lucky run in a weak division" God I love calling the AL East a weak division.
  5. http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/6479266/v32407589/chcmil-segura-leaves-the-game-with-an-injury/?content_id=&source=MLB&c_id=mlb&tcid=facebook_embedded_player&gid=2014_04_26_chnmlb_milmlb_1 rest of the team should be careful...Braun gets his hits in bunches
  6. Meseraco's hammy and Braun playing tee ball with Segura's head has made my bench decisions much easier. Stupid league
  7. Yes the guy that pitched 233 innings of almost 9k/9 ball and AA told everyone, we believe he'll get better...was brought in to put up #4 numbers
  8. I'd hire them...we need some help at Tim Hortons
  9. Probably would be more concerned that it's the 7th time this year he's hit 120. Through his 130th pitch 95MPH. I can't believe there is talk that he won't be 1.1
  10. The more I see quotes from AA, the more I think how he reminds me of bad message board posters.
  11. 10.2% of players in the majors are from the Dominican. 14 of 138 TJS in the past 3 years were from the DR (10.14%)
  12. If there was info to support your theory (which I don't believe there is). I would say that your reasoning is completely wrong. It would because major league orgs get these players under their control at the age of 15 (I know it's supposed to be 16 but these kids are put on a major league program long before they are signed). Kids that play in NA, are playing club teams, summer leagues, high school and showcase right up until 18. They have so much money at stake basically on how hard they can throw. Secondly, Jose Fernandez came to North American high school at 15...so your theory on what happened at Cuba probably isn't holding that much weight either. Here is a nice interview on what he's seeing in high school arms. http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/04/10/dr-james-andrews-explains-why-tommy-john-surgery-is-on-the-rise/
  13. Non North Americans (that I know are not North Americans) that have had the surgery. 2014 Nova (DR) Morillo (Ven) Moylan (Aus) Rondon (Ven) Sano (DR) 2013 Betancourt (Ven) Stuifbergen (NL) Osuna (Mex) Paulino (DR) Silverio (DR) Norberto (DR) Fujikawa (Jap) Furcal (DR) Liriano (DR) 2012 Banuelos (Mex) Ovideo (DR) Oliveros (Ven) Feliz (DR) Perez (DR) Paulino (DR) Lim (Kor) Oranmas (Mex) Mateo (DR) Contreas (Cuba) Ni (Taiwan) Wada (Jap) Jimenez (PR) Lee (Taiwan) Ceda (DR) Soria (Mex) Escalona (Ven) Vizcaino (DR) Since the beginning of 2012 there have been 138 Tommy John Surgeries 32 have been to players born outside of NA.
  14. it's not that they are throwing to much too early. They are throwing too hard too early (and then too often). Pressure to always throw hard in high school to get the big contract. Pressure on them to pitch in all seasons too. Although there has been a lot of pitchers converted from OF that have had it too. Chances are they were pitchers in high school.
  15. 400 pound Wrigley cake makes it's way to the trash bin...must be hiding it from Dan Vogelbach. Oh wait no need to hide it he's not getting to Wrigley without a ticket. #400lbsprospecttothetrash
  16. we really don't care what happens in your third world country
  17. I really don't understand the Super two issues when it comes to win now teams (which frankly the Jays should be in). If the player is reaching super 2 it means that they came up and never got sent back down (pretty much). Which likely means that you were being valuable for the team. Yes it's not as good as 3 years at min salary...but the more it costs you, it's the more it helped your team. If Stroman is costing them 10M in extra cash by being a Super 2. It means that he was pretty damn effective for them and worth more than the risks they took with several other players.
  18. Are you sure...they've both been under the knife quite a few times
  19. it's a stupid rule...but even more stupid of Pineda to make it so obvious. I guarantee that Blue Jays pitchers have done it, cause 95% of them do it. They just don't think "it's dark, my skin is dark, I'm gold"
  20. anyone else hoping for a 5 way tie at .500 in the AL East at the end of the season and have them decide the winner by playing that game where you move your hands up the bat until someone runs out of wood
