  1. Expect a late crowd. DVP is closed, Gardiner has two accidents. My parents left at 10:45 (cause they are old and that's what they do) and they just got off the DVP at Don Mills.
  2. and Hicks leads off with a walk to break the string. 37 hits, 7 ER, 0 walks, 50K over that stretch.
  3. Nats starters have gone 50 strikeouts since their last walk. 7 games, 49 innings...probably the most impressive stretch in history.
  4. he wasn't a high school guy but yes they thought if he didn't sign as a Junior (he was drafted 2nd by the Phillies and never got close to an agreement) that he could play independent ball for a year and be a FA. MLB told him he'd be eligible for one more draft. I'm quite sure that for a high school kid to attempt to be an FA they'd have to not sign for 4 drafts. Matt Harrington had to go through 4 drafts before signing with Costco for $11.50 an hour
  5. appreciate you making an age exception for me. The internet access at the hotel was frustratingly slow.
  6. I only like the guys taking HS guys if they have an older farm. Having a 12 man farm that averages 20 years old means that you'll probably be dumping some of the guys before they really show anything. Unless of course you trade all your picks the next year.
  7. some of these guys would be getting Cuban money (Puig, Soler etc) if they were free agents.
  8. nope. Would be eligible for the draft again next year and for the next 3 years if they kept doing it.
  9. They are believing the hype that they can only draft when they have number 1.
  10. made that out...I bet you feel pretty foolish now
  11. He seemed to be rattled by the 2-2 pitch to Santana. That DP might clear his head
  12. who knew Puig was such an Anthony Gose fan...King might be a little much though
  13. same thing happened with me in the Fantasy Challenge draft. I thought I had a great pick in Rio Ruiz...turns out he was on a team already. At least I got him here
  14. Nola's curveball is sexy. I'm back now...will catch up on all things Darrell shortly.
  15. f*** doing this correctly I'm in an airport. I was down between two guys but when in doubt take the lefty. I select Rio Ruiz, 3B Houston Astros
  16. Not at the draft was supposed to be at Erick Fedde's draft party at the Sands but he cancelled when he went under the knife
  17. Catchers...especially ones that play in a weak conferences still generally have a 3 year transition to the majors. Jason Castro was drafted in 2008 and debuted June 2010 but his catching skills were thought to be major league ready while at Stanford. There aren't a lot of small college catchers taken in the first round that I can think of off hand. Mitch Maier back in 2003 but he was converted to OF. Tony Sanchez was 3 years I think too (although he's had injury issues). 2016 is realistic...2017 is likely
  18. 208 Jake Latz LHP Lemont (Ill.) HS Ill. 7 Latz formed an electric prep battery with Mike Papierski, and both are committed to Louisiana State. Latz may not get there after a strong finish to a dominant spring campaign. The slender 6-foot-2, 185-pounder is growing into his body and has added velocity this spring. After sitting in the 84-88 mph range last summer on the travel ball circuit, Latz topped out at 92 mph early and popped some 93s as the season wore on. He has a feel for spinning his slider and has shown the ability to land it for strikes. He’s needed just two pitches to overmatch Illinois prep competition and could use some polish, but he has athleticism. If he doesn’t sign, he could pitch in the weekend rotation for LSU as a freshman.
  19. and I will likely be drunk from tomorrow until June 8th.
  20. even with his negative value so far this year he's still a little behind Yunel.
  21. How much does Panda hate advanced stats....http://m.mlb.com/video/?content_id=33409517&topic_id=6479266
  22. PS. Silvergun, my issue with trading Soriano has nothing to do with fear of anything. I plan to compete again next year (I don't think I can dig my way out of the hole I ended up in early this year). I don't want to pay a premium for a closer as I'll be searching for 8th not first...a few saves might be what I need. Too many times people get into this full rebuild mode. I did it far too much in Fantasy Challenge. I just pretty much stopped dealing vets last year and now I'm sitting in a position where I can compete with anyone but the big two. My only goal once I had my bad start this year was to deal from strengths and get younger. I did that.
  23. I suppose I have to do my cutdown tonight? f*** it...I'll bring my laptop to the pool. It will hide my pastiness.
