  1. GSnarls could have meant the Kingston Ponies. Although they were knocked out the playoffs a while back
  2. This is a good place as any to post that JPA rumour I completely randomly heard and hinted at a few weeks ago. I'm working at the Boxing Ontario booth at the Hershey Centre when some guy starts talking to me. Through him asking what I'd like to get out of my Sports Management program we get around to talking about baseball and AA. I share my always positive opinions about AA and his Ninja skills. Anyway this guy throws out that he was friends with Yan Gomes and that Gomes was traded because him and JPA couldn't get along and JPA essentially forced the Jays hand and made them trade Gomes. My prof was the Sport Psychologist for the University of Tennessee when both JPA and Gomes were there so he did some investigating as to whether there was any truth to the rumours and he absolutely could not confirm any of it (even if Gomes left UT because of JPA there is no confirmation). So it was a fun little rumour but considering the source (random guy who talks to strangers) I would call this one as reliable as a Kevin Gray report.
  3. they did know they weren't getting a utility infielder.
  4. Categories. Best overall poster: NJH...got to be 3 years running I've voted for him. Funniest poster: Ang, when you can't speak English just let a pic do the talking for you. Best foreign poster: Ang already got one so I'll go with Orgfiller. Best rookie/new poster: Smokey and The Bandit...okay not Smokey just the Burlington Bandit. Comeback poster of the year: Kirksaw, cause I'd like him to come back. Best looking/Most attractive poster: You are all beauties to me. Best troll: Jaysfan2014. Best poster to get banned: BigJohn Best infrequent poster: Nox. Luckily I get everyday "I ♥ U❣" messages from him. Thread of the year: It's a huge thread and it really didn't have many other moments but the DDL thread on waiver draft day. Also known as the day Spanky was Dunne. Also... Worst overall poster: AmenicOffense Most annoying poster: Boxy
  5. I was sure that they waived him in the off season but I was wrong he never came off the 40 man. I remember talking about the Jays picking him up so it must have been a "O's considering dropping him" type rumour.
  6. I'm not sure that drafts are quite measurable that way. 1997 and 1989 are the two best drafts for the Jays that I can think of. 89 had two 50 bWAR players (Olerud and Kent) and not much else. 1997 was Wells, Michael Young, Hendrickson and the O-Dogg. I would say most drafts you'd be happy if you get 2 career 10 WAR players...many historic drafts do not even get you that.
  7. Hmm, as usual I like to throw all logic out the window when picking playoffs (and have done so effectively for the past 3 years). I think I'll take the earthquake series repeat. San Fran over Oakland. By heart Washington over Oakland by head LA Angels over St. Louis By coin flip Pit over SF, Pit over Wash, LAD over StL, Pit over LAD Oak over KC, Oak over LAA, Balt over Det, Oak over Balt Oakland over Pit
  8. Didn't he have 12 offers or something like that in the past two years? BMO has to expand 7K in seats for the Pan Am's anyway. I'm positive that MLSE will buy the Argo's soon enough
  9. I know you don't want to admit that AA is one of the useless ones...but why mention ownership in a thread about why the O's did better than us. In 2011 the O's payroll was $16M greater than ours. In 3 seasons we have jumped over them and this season our payroll was $30M higher than theirs. That's greater than the difference between Detroit, Boston or the LA Angels to the Jays (if you take away the Angels obligations to other teams their payroll is actually equal to the Jays). I wish I could explain the O's success...as BTS pointed out they didn't waste a lot of PA's on completely useless players and that helps. Defense is huge for them (238 of their runs against them were on HR's, that's 320 earned runs on others). I don't give their front office any credit for Pearce as they cut him not once...but twice this year (at least the second time the Jays actually made a move to get him).
  10. Salazar and Wood lose their starts and I'm going to get passed in K's in my Roto pool...which will cost me my 2nd/3rd tie that i currently have. Now I need a 6 SB day from my non running team. I hate pools.
  11. and a review just cost Adam Jones GG #4 Those OF assists
  12. yes but I just found out Alex Wood isn't getting his start tomorrow. I think 3rd place is in the cards for me.
  13. AA and Beest could be gone by then and I can come back. And I still watch most Jays games.
  14. probably can't do it over a long career like Reed...but I can see Pillar's best seasons close to that 117 wRC that Reed has against LHP.
  15. yay 5 more years of Buck and Pat talking about how old they are.
  16. Unless you are signing another starter I can't see them not at least picking it up with the thought of trading someone if needed. Carrying 7 starters is only an issue if you are blocking someone who is absolutely going to out-pitch the guy blocking him. With Sanchez and Norris still being question marks I think Happ is worth picking up the option, having options in March is a good thing. Picking up the option without at least shopping a starter would be stupid though.
  17. I'm not creating a new GDT. Jose deserved that K, after Pat saying "he's looking very hitterish out there". I picked up Happ for his two start week in my big pool and with about a $400 difference between 2nd and 3rd WHIP is the biggest stat for me right now. I will either be team Happ or sending him death threats after this game.
  18. As much as the "Canadian" angle is joked about often...as soon as DP came to bat a very dead crowd got loud. He might be marketable which might give him value to them starting the season.
  19. This should end really badly for the D-Backs. Moar dum GM's is good for baseball though
  20. at least keep it baseball related http://www.baseball-almanac.com/baseball_cards/samples/1985_Fleer_Update.jpg
  21. He coaches his son's 1999's team out of Milton (I think or maybe it was Bolton). I convened their OBA qualifiers and he was telling me that he flies out Saturday nights most weeks and returns Monday morning. For the extra money he probably gets that's probably better than working all 162 games.
  22. Last time David Ortiz did this... http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/8878826/v36572769/sflad-kershaw-robs-hudson-with-behindtheback-snag
  23. I missed it a few days ago...did Ortiz, a f***ing DH, really say that Kershaw shouldn't win MVP because he doesn't do enough or play enough? How is this man so liked around the league?
  24. just because I say ignorant it doesn't mean you have to reply. You think that umps aren't aware of framing data. We are talking about split second decisions. They aren't going to say "Jose Molina is embarrassing me, I'm not giving you a call" As it is you have MLB telling them to expand their zone to speed up games.
