I just wanted to say that I haven't gone full Min yet but my free time just keeps taking more of a hit as I am now working with a couple Pan Am Special events including chairing one. Don't worry though when it comes time to fundraising I'll be sure to hit you f***ers up. I do apologize for those that were talking 3B trade with me. If I cost myself some value as everyone sets their rosters...oh well.

That's just it, he's not that much different than 100's probably 1000's of guys that are just like him, and maybe it's just right place right time for him but he didn't get his job through typical baseball means. Even Billy Beane came through the player route. Friedman was just like me and you, a fan who happens to be really, really smart (should re-word that as I'm not that smart). I knew so many guys in the investment world who didn't know half what I did about sports but I paired up with them to win money betting sports or playing fantasy because they could do what Friedman does. So what makes Friedman special compared to these guys. He's not playing fantasy baseball with me; he became a GM of a baseball team...and a winning baseball team at that. I'm sure that Friedman has some bias...but it certainly isn't obvious. I respect that a lot. If I had Nox's brain I'd certainly be pursuing a career in baseball but I'm sure I'd still have some bias. I 100% hope that Tampa gets back to their winning ways though. It would show (or should show) the world that Friedman wasn't the sole (or Soul for Jonn) reason that they won, but the system that was put in place works. Then maybe, just maybe a few more teams will hire guys I know are as smart as Friedman and others like him.

As a side note. Friedman will be dealing AJ Ellis...can anyone see him calling AA on that one.

I'd imagine that less than $189M by 2016 or win a championship is the agenda there now. I agree with KK though Friedman has it tough in LA. I still think the Rays will be just fine, processes are in place. Valuations won't change, it's just a matter of people believing in them and following through. And as I said before, I'm a Friedman fan more than a Rays fan. If the Rays still follow the model I'll be a fan. But my Friedman boner can easily reach LA

What is fair compensation for AF? Rays will be asking for Corey Seager or Joc I'm sure.

I think it will be interesting to see how he plays off his lack of PR skills and gets the Dodgers fans to buy in as he doesn't purely spend to win.

I can't wait to hear who he's bringing with him. Silverman is a brilliant guy himself and cut from the same cloth as Friedman (Ivy League educated, through the investment world). My Dad is going to love that I'll be a Dodgers fan now (as I was as a young kid until Rick Monday)

1. He doesn't need to clear waivers he's got options. 2. Buffalo needs arms...if Schultz is going to be a reliever we don't need relievers on the 40 man in Buffalo. After years of wasting 40 man spots on minor league and injured relievers, he got much better at it this year. Your back relievers should waiver claims or minor league starters. As it turns out that for the first time in AA's tenure we don't really have a roster crunch (could it because of point number 2 above??) so picking up a guy who will compete for a bullpen spot is fine at this point.

it's likely part of it. But as the data shows...there are a lot of teams using bad framers too. Bad framers are at their worst at the bottom of zone at least from what I know of it or what my eyes see. There isn't a lot of change on the inside or outside...in fact it's getting smaller.

This past season it was 18.3 percent. Hitters swung at 45.0 percent of these pitches in 2009 and 49.2 percent in 2014 because they know it is more likely to be called a strike these days. Pitching to the bottom of the zone is something pitchers have done for decades. It's tough to hit the ball down, and even when hitters do make contact, they tend to beat the ball into the ground. Pitchers like that. Nowadays pitchers can pitch lower in the zone than they have at any point in the last eight years (the PitchFX era) and it's sapping offense around the league. Why is the strike zone growing downward? Beats me. The zone is clearly defined in the rulebook as knees to letters, though it's been more of an amorphous blob in recent years. If the zone continues to expand, offense is only is going to go down even further. Hopefully there's a correction sometime soon and the zone is called as it should be.

Friedman's regime has not really had a lot of draft results. But I'd say that they target bats over arms and power over athleticism. I would bet they value bat speed over all other tools...when you read about many of their draft picks it's about good bat speed and max effort guys. Seldom about huge ceilings. Doesn't help that their entire 2010 class started smoking crack.

I didn't actually get confused...just may not have worded it well (more of a continuing conversation between KGM and I). Cory Burns was on my list of guys that could easily be dumped. My discussion was about Andy and whether they should add him to the 40.

they also have Cory Burns, Delabar, Drabek?, Hynes, Schultz, Francisco, Tolleson, Hague that all can be dropped without any issue. They obviously need to replace the major league spots that will come off the 40 man too (Cabrera, Rasmus...whoever's options they don't pick up). I really think Burns is a candidate to get plucked. He's supposed to be a plus defender who can play 5 positions and makes average contact, runs well and might be able to hit lefties (.915 OPS in 500 PAs). Seems to me he'd fit in very well as a 25th man. He seems like he'd have more value to this team than Tolleson or even Valencia.

As much as it was a bust year for all three teams you do have to remember that you have to look at spending for those years too. Rays spent approximately $4M on that draft, Red Sox approximately $7M, Yankees about 7.5M. Jays in comparison were $5M approximately. Whatever changed for JP that year in comparison to other years he got great value out of his draft. In looking up the bonuses spent I came up with this BA pre-draft write up for Goins. It sound pretty funny now 130 Ryan Goins SS Dallas Baptist Texas $216,000 Ryan Goins smashed 22 homers for Dallas Baptist this spring, but his best tool is actually his plus-plus arm. A lefthanded hitter, he projects to have more gap power than home run pop with wood bats. The 5-foot-11, 183-pounder draws a lot of walks and should be able to hit in pro ball. His well-below-average speed will force him to move from shortstop to second base, where his arm strength will be less of an asset.
