  1. he never posted projections for Muni. Would have been interesting to see. He does show how his projections would have went for some other past players. Iguchi is the the only one he shows which the slash line was way over.
  2. I've always been of the belief that the Jays were a playoff team with or without that trade. Sometimes it's just timing in a trade that makes it look good.
  3. I tried to tell everyone that this wasn't the Jays refusing. Boras told the Jays as long as Beest is involved he would not be dealing with them. Here is the stat line from that NOM projections site. Don't know much about the methodology. Also this would have been his projection leading into last season not this season. 4. He was part of the greatest Japanese College team in history (which included Ioki, Wada, Yoshida and I believe 4 others that went on to pro ball). Here are some pay service scouting reports. Michael Street in 2012 The track record of NPB shortstops in MLB hasn’t been a good one, but Takashi Toritani seems ready to reverse that trend. Toritani had been making noise about becoming a free agent after the 2012 season, but he chose to remain with the Hanshin Tigers for another season. In the process, Toritani turned down a two-year deal in favor of a one-year contract, increasing speculation that he will test the waters before the 2014 season. Toritani’s .282 career batting average isn’t all that impressive, but he does have a 10.8 percent walk rate and has flashed more speed than power as he’s aged. Still, his offense and middling defense, as well as the history of Japanese shortstops, make him more likely to catch on in a utility role. From A scout "he's patient, he has some plate vision, but I don't see him stinging the ball like he used to. The ball doesn't jump off his bat like it did three or four years ago…and in my opinion his bat speed is falling off a little bit." Steve Sypa in 2013 Like Nakajima, Toritani is a shortstop by trade. He also has experience at third base, having played there for the majority of his rookie season. As a shortstop, he is the owner of two Mitsui Golden Glove Awards, which he won in 2010 and 2011, and he has a shot at his third for his 2012 season. As was the case with Nakajima, a lack of data makes it hard to tell if the award was justified or not, but the scouts seem to agree that Toritani is a plus fielder. His already strong arm — believed by some to be the best among contemporary shortstops — is augmented by his speed, allowing him to cover a lot of ground and gun down runners. He does, however, have a tendency to make throwing errors. Like other shortstops coming over from Japan, doubts will always linger about the fielding aspects of the position, regardless of how good or bad the player has been. An NL scout doubts that Toritani will stay at short if he comes to MLB: "I think he's a good player; he's solid…If an MLB team does decide to take him, I don't know if he'll be used as a shortstop. Maybe second base, maybe elsewhere." From nomprojections (a site which specializes in trying to figure out if how NPB players will convert to MLB) Both Toritani and Itoi could be moderately valuable players, provided they can stick at shortstop and center field, respectively. I don’t think either will hit as well as Norichika Aoki (Toritani could be pretty close), and Aoki has been a fairly average (~2 win) player in right field. So, if they’re going to provide much value above average, Itoi is going to have to stay in center field, and Toritani is going to have to be able to play shortstop of second base. As far as comparisons to MLB players this year, at short Toritani would likely be similar to a slightly better Yunel Escobar with the bat, but much worse in the field, though it’s unknown by how much. At second, Toritani would pretty much be Daniel Murphy this season, but with less power and more on base skills. If he could field either position well enough, he could be a productive player. Itoi with the bat in center would be something like Jon Jay or Denard Span, which is great if he could field like Span, and not so great if he fielded like Jay.
  5. He's (without good reason) being groomed for the Jays job, which makes me think if anything AA will move to president once Beest is officially out...and it's a new GM they will be looking for.
  6. Got to figure that the Beest is truly out of the picture now if Boras is dealing with the Jays
  7. I think CSN is missing ESPN's very average attempt at humour
  8. Haven't looked up the numbers but my blind eye tells me that Miley is one of the best defensive pitchers
  9. JR Graham surprised me too. He didn't look as good after his injury but he's still throwing 97
  10. potential targets. Delino Deshields Jr. nothing much has changed about his tools since he was a top 10 pick 4 years ago. he still lacks a bat and has a s*** tonne of speed. Sean Gilmartin - Another former high profile prospect. LHP who isn't very hittable by lefties. But has nothing above average about him. Cody Martin - 25 year old Atlanta's number 11 prospect who in 40 AAA starts put up 8.3 K/9 3.5 BB/9. Was a reliever in college, didn't convert to starter until 2014 so doesn't have much mileage on the arm. He should be picked by someone and stashed in the pen for a year or spot starter. Isn't probably a true fit for the Jays. Jarlin Garcia - Not for the Jays...but a 60 fastball and 50 Curve is a chance for someone to pick up a solid young LHP. He's only the 4th best lefty in the minors for the Marlins which is why they didn't give him a spot on the 40.
  11. oh yeah...although I see him as more of a pinch runner than a 2B (and I'm a Johnson owner) As for my Guerra thought, I'm still not a believer in the Jays FO assessment skills just because they made some good moves. So I still stand behind them talking to the White Sox about Navarro
  12. White Sox truly only have Flowers now (Nieto, Brantly behind him). White Sox love ex Cubs. White sox just signed a reliever. AA has Kenny right below Mr. Greek on the speed dial. I await the eminent. Navarro for Javy Guerra or Micah Johnson (AA just said he wants speed...how about 70 speed).

  14. yep I've never understood why no one has tried a guy like him as a 120 inning reliever. Him facing a lineup once (at any point in the game) would likely provide similar results to what he's getting now.
  15. If they knew Navarro is replacement level would they ever have traded Montero? They still wouldn't deal Marshall for him, but in no way are the D-Backs buying into pitch framing values.
  16. CASILLA walked 4.5/9 over 50 IP in 2013 and was over 4.0 for his career coming into this year. Can we end this discussion now! The point we are trying to make is that you shouldn't pay bullpens for what they have done (or anyone) but pay them for what you think they will do.
  17. Jealousy among the Grade 10 insiders
  18. Pair of Johnson's in return? Tim Anderson?
  19. When the f*** did I become lower on the posts read scale than Ang. Maybe I should put all my facts into funny pics.
  20. If the Phils had Ward instead of Williams they may have lost the NLCS. What no one outside of Philly remembers is that the Phils had two good relievers all season who were f***ing horrible all through the playoffs. They helped big time to blow that game 4. Old Man Larry Anderson(who was a top 15 Reliever that year...so we can call him lights out I guess) and David West. Neither had a clean outing all playoffs. Cecil had a 9 game stretch with a 0.00 ERA 5 hits, 3 walks 15 K's. Elite. Then he finished the season with 19.3 innings, 0.00 ERA. Elite

  22. You aren't getting a team to kick in money when they have a below Free Agent market value contract.
  23. Cards 2011, Cards 2006, White Sox 2005, Marlins 2003... Not to mention how many of those "shut down" bullpen guys, weren't expected to be shutdown guys at the start of the season.
  24. He became an evil lawyer for the Oil and Gas drillers of Houston...then put more Republicans into the House of Representatives via Wyoming and now is a less evil Lawyer in Tulowitzki country. He's also known as Terminator around these parts.
  25. I thought it was The Netherlands
