  1. yes but Mexicans also love Menudo (Both the band and the lining of a cows stomach), 44+ inch hips, fitting 20 people into a pickup and Jello. Tough to take their opinions seriously
  2. The guys has never had a season below 1.7 fWAR. Not saying he'll end up worth $12M for two but it's probably right around his value.
  3. Still a chance that the Jays trade Navarro to the Padres then.
  4. Checking out his Pacifico Liga team and the familiar name that stands out is Alfredo Aceves. The stat comparison for a small sample size this season is favourable for Oramas Oramas - 13 games (all starts) 63.2 IP, 49 hits, 27 BB, 61K Aceves - 19 games (7 starts) 55 IP, 58 hits, 18 BB, 36K The 27 BB's would be a concern as no one in the Mexican league draws a walk.
  5. My bias and hatred took over at short and fat
  6. BA in 2013. I believe he's a little teapot or tetera Ranked San Diego Padres #18 prospect after the 2013 season Premium Oramas pitched for Double-A San Antonio's Texas League champions in both 2011 and 2013, sandwiching those playoff runs around Tommy John surgery in 2012. He announced his return to full health by making 12 starts for the Missions in 2013 and going 3-2, 3.07 with a 4.0 SO/BB ratio, then dealing 12 scoreless innings in the playoffs. The Padres non-tendered Oramas following the 2012 season to make room for other players on the 40-man roster, though they subsequently re-signed him to a minor league deal for 2013. The reason San Diego has made such a great effort to retain Oramas is because he projects to have three major league pitches with a feel to deploy them for maximum impact. Short and stout, he locates an 89-92 mph fastball all over the strike zone with a fearless demeanor, hiding the ball until the last instant and varying his arm angle. His curveball features tight rotation and average power, while he doesn't hesitate to lean on his fading changeup when he has feel for it. Oramas returned to the familiar surroundings of the Mexican Pacific League in October 2013 as he prepares to audition for the big league club. Making or not making the rotation might have more to do with inventory than ability, seeing as Oramas will be competing for innings with veterans such as Andrew Cashner, Josh Johnson, Ian Kennedy, Cory Luebke, Tyson Ross and a host of prospect hopefuls.
  7. Smith is supposed to play 1B. Can't speak for the rest. To move in about 6 or 7 wins...they have moved about 4 wins to the bench or will deal them for not much (this doesn't include the assets they . Outside of Upton the highest Steamer projection goes to a player they will have as a backup. Bench/minors projections Alonso 1.8 Venable 1.0 Spangenberg 0.6 (in 325 PA) Maybin 0.6 (in 210 PA) If any of those guys had much for trade value it would be very different but I don't think they do.
  8. Yep 2004 was the first season in Petco (new stadium ... the only absolute surefire thing you can do to ensure attendance increases) they hit 3M. Then they make the playoffs in 05 and 06 and attendance drops. There is a slight uptick in 07...they lose 7 of their last 11 and just miss the playoffs. Spend another $15M in the off season and attendance drops off a cliff and can't recover. From 5th in attendance to bottom 3rd in 5 years ... with 2 playoff runs and an 89 win season.
  9. Until the correct splash which is firing the entire FO. I've said this before...if you can't build a winning team there are things you can do to increase attendance and value.
  10. I just saw Jamie Moyer is in the top 5 Fangraph searches. Please please tell me he's making a comeback
  11. Off season buzz has great short-term returns for ticket sales. Winning takes about 4 years to make much of a difference. Padres are putting themselves into a Jays mode where sustaining buzz is tough and making more splashes is required.
  12. ftfy. Here are the penalties (changing the years as these were from 2012. Over Budget Penalty 0-5% Pay a 75% tax on the overage. 5-10% Pay a 75% tax on the overage & forfeit ability to sign any player for a bonus of more than $500K in the 2013-14 signing period. 10-15% Pay a 100% tax on the overage & forfeit ability to sign any player for a bonus of more than $500K in the 2013-14 signing period. 15%+ Pay a 100% tax on the overage & forfeit ability to sign any player for a bonus of more than $250K in the 2013-14 signing period.
  13. I always put "Penis-free" in my orders, ever since I got sent Juan Pierre in a wig. He was young and pretty though.
  14. 6th catcher this week. Is it really a fit though. When do you play Ross? Putting him in against lefties takes away Norris greatest strength. It's been 3 years since Ross hit RHP at all (although he was okay at it earlier in his career). Can his solid catching make up for a 41 wRC against RHP like he put up last year.
  15. Don't believe him, that girl he sent me was no girl.
  16. With the 5 or so catcher trades that took place in the past 3 days...you have to figure that AA is not discussing Navarro to anyone right now. But figuring out value shouldn't be tough.
  17. Yep they turned a 95 win team into an 88 win team
  18. until August when they are leading the division by 5 games. Long time A's fans have even stopped complaining in the off season as they just sit back and assume it's going to work out alright. I'll take back all my offered wagers that Nolin provides more value than Sanchez (even if Sanchez starts) as I think Nolin might be #9 on the depth chart now...at least when Griffin and Parker return.
  19. No way I'd want my player playing with another team. Especially one like Turner who is obviously a little obsessive about change.
  20. And pre-1995 there wasn't even all sports radio stations. You'd have to watch the News or Sportsdesk (and even the first 4 years of TSN were a subscription service...so I think it was 1988 where I got TSN) to get trade info. There were no scroll services for scores, I remember for baseball you'd never your TV in the middle of the 5th as it would be your out of town scoreboard. Not to mention that there were about 40 or so Jays games not on TV. Newspapers never had west coast scores.
  21. Since Turner can't be dealt until June...does he have to open the season with the Padres system? Or does he just stay in minor league spring training until June?
  22. 80 speed guys are sexy and Turner did his big numbers in a way less offensive league than Hamilton and Deshields big Cal League breakouts. But lets see what happens when Turner (who strikes out quite a bit) doesn't BABIP .470. I still think Delino Jr. is a great comp for him.
  23. I don't have to agree with any of the opinions of Dick Pole (and I don't) but I like the way he delivers them. Orgfiller is justified for killing him and his family now though.
