  1. Fair comp but Dipoto deals almost can't count as he makes so many of them.
  2. A little murder charge in there and lost a couple years.
  3. 100 most influential Canadians in baseball list is out. Ole' Bob Elliot can't let go of a few names and the list is completely Ontario centred but always fun to look at. Denny Berni made the list and he was cool enough to let me practice with the Hawks while I was at Humber. https://www.canadianbaseballnetwork.com/canadian-baseball-network-articles/2016-most-influential-canadians-in-baseball
  4. is it so shocking to hear an honest answer?
  5. 3 or more dynasty baseball leagues.
  6. NJH knows how to pump a guy up on his birthday!
  7. Devers - 99 on BA, 90 BP. Miggy was 91 after his 17 year old debut. Wily Mo Pena 88, BA didn't rank Ynoa but BP debuted him at 20. Angel Villalona (who is 25 and still hasn't hit AAA) debuted at 33.
  8. enough with the speeches we've moved on to wish BTS Happy Birthday now!
  9. BP had Sano at 35 3 months before his 17th birthday. BA had him at 94 upon signing and 60 when at the same point Vlad is now. I'd guess that Vlad ends up somewhere around 45-60 on the BA list this year. Callis is so bullish on this farm (I think he said he might have 7 in his personal top 100) so he has to put Vlad high.
  10. Doesn't Shapiro or Atkins go on MLB radio every week?
  11. It was a bold prediction thread. I predicted he'd have 80 innings of an over 6.00 ERA. Prove me wrong bro! I think my actual prediction was that he'd look a lot more like the over 4.00 FIP he had on the road (in 2012) than the numbers he put up in Miami. People always talk about Oakland creating pitchers and then trading them off but Sun Life Stadium was a pretty good pitchers park and Marlins park is probably the best park in baseball for pitchers...at least when it comes to HR's.
  12. His cutter was absolutely s*** last year. Will be interesting to see if Seattle has him abandon it.
  13. isn't Tampa more of a pitchers park than Seattle these days? I think it suppresses HR's more.
  14. I'd love to know what Tellez's trade value is. I'd be shocked if someone gives more than a reliever for him, but I don't see him helping the team this year so might be worth it. Pompey interests me too...his projections are still okay, but he's certainly not shiny and new.
  15. He gave the Jays 4/10's of a win more than I predicted he would. Keep in mind with the Marlins players (and Dickey) projected at about 8 wins it still only brought the Jays up to an 83 or 84 win projection. Even if the best Josh Johnson showed up this was still probably not a team ready for a "difference maker".
  16. So how much did you give to the Kickstarter?
  17. Fans raised 60K to make a sequel. The greatest scene in the movie was before that one.
  18. Surplus value is just adding WAR/$ calculations and subtracting payroll. Yunel did not have to go if the F.O. played the PR issues correctly. And 2 weeks after he was dealt to the Marlins because he had no value, he was flipped for a guy that has put up $22M in excess value. No one will ever be able to convince me that the Marlins trade was not a horrible poorly thought out trade.
  19. Last time I did a calculation the package sent had netted more fWAR than the Jays got...and the Jays paid a lot more salary. Since the trade Yunel 7.2, Disco 5.2, Hech 1.7, Alvarez 4.2, Marisnick 2.4, Nicolino 0.6. Only Yunel ran out of team control since then. 20.9 fWAR is like $150M for not very much total salary. Only good thing is that likely only Disco will put up much surplus moving forward.
  20. He nets at a zero in his huge splashes. The Florida trade was something like a $120M net value deficit, Donaldson deal and Dickey deal probably wipe each other out.
  21. Happy Birthday NJH! http://images.memes.com/meme/631298
  22. Blue Bird Banter poll. I'm not sure what is more surprising the result or that BBB has 4000 hits http://www.bluebirdbanter.com/2017/1/8/14204542/poll-time-do-you-approve-of-the-job-mark-shapiro-and-ross-atkins-are-doing Do you approve of the job Mark Shipiro and Ross Atkins are doing? 15% Approve (610 votes) 27% Neutral (1093 votes) 59% Disapprove (2410 votes) 4113 votes total More From Bluebird Banter
  23. Dipoto just likes to collect players it seems.
  24. His VF article (which I think was posted in the first investigation of the pick) http://www.vanityfair.com/magazine/1984/03/dunne198403
  25. Just a list of similar seasons at that age (purely looking at wRC+). Nomar Mazara Jhailyn Ortiz Wander Javier (super small sample size because of injury) Ronald Guzman Miguel Sano Gary Sanchez Starling Heredia Rafael Rodriguez Johnathan Sierra Joel Guzman Gilberto Celestino Nelson Gomez Suely Matias Phillips Castillo That's just by searching the highest International bonuses. I like Vlad Jr. a lot. The K-Rate super impresses me. But there is nothing yet that leads us to believe he's an untradeable generational talent. His name is part of the helium on the hype. Again perception plays a role. When the Dickey trade happened there was positive thoughts about the team (falsely)...right now it seems like it would be a desperation move based on public/media perception of where the team is. Opinion of Vlad Jr is less of a factor at this point IMO. Opinion of what Cutch will be I can completely buy as a reason not to do the deal.
